The Central Florida Knights enter the 2022 season as one of the more intriguing teams in college football. Gus Malzahn was hired to inject some life into the Knights' program one year ago. Malzahn fulfilled his first obligation by leading Central Florida to a 9-4 record, including a victory over the Florida Gators in the Gasparilla Bowl. What does he have in store for an encore?

OVERVIEW

The question that has been on the minds of Knights fans for the last several months has been: who will be the starting QB? Malzahn answered that question this week when he announced that Ole Miss transfer John Rhys Plumlee would be QB1.

If you are not familiar with Plumlee, he has quite the pedigree. John Rhys Plumlee was a 4-star recruit out of Mississippi who only lost his job because he was up against future 3rd round NFL draft pick Matt Corrall.

The Rebels' loss becomes the Knight's gain as John Rhys Plumlee can open up the Malzahn-led offense. If you recall, in 2019, John Rhys Plumlee ran for over 200 yards against eventual National Champion LSU. You read that correctly--he RAN for 200 yards against LSU! With an innovative offensive guru at Head Coach, John Rhys Plumlee will be a multi-faceted problem for the opposition.

AAC LANDSCAPE

Can the Cincinnati Bearcats three-peat in the AAC? Possibly, but Cincinnati is significantly weaker than they were a season ago. Replacing the firepower left behind from the departures of QB Desmond Ridder, WR Alec Pierce, and RB Jerome Ford will not be easy. The Bearcats' offense was not the only side of the ball negatively impacted by the 2022 NFL Draft. Sauce Gardner and Coby Bryant leave huge holes in the Cincinnati secondary, and much of the team's swagger will be lacking as we enter the 2022 college football season.

The AAC feels as wide open as it has been for quite some time.

CENTRAL FLORIDA FUTURES

The AAC feels wide open entering the 2022 season, and the betting community supports that notion. Take a quick look at the over/under win on the win totals for the favorites:

Cincinnati: 9

Houston: 9

Central Florida: 8.5

We have three co-favorites separated by 1/2 game.

However, take a look at the DraftKings odds to win the AAC:

Cincinnati +210

Houston +235

Central Florida +300

Why is Central Florida getting significantly better odds than their counterparts? Don't ask questions. Pounce to win money! Take Central Florida at +300 to win the AAC, and don't look back!
