10/6/22: THE PREGAME--Breaking Down Every NFL Game for Week 5

Ryan Broyles
10-05-2022

The NFL has had its ups and downs so far in 2022--that's for sure. Never lose sight of the process. We have won or broken even weekly thus far, so at least we haven't been under .500.

Last week we finished 9-7 ATS and 9-7 O/U.

That brings our season total to 34-30 ATS and 34-30 O/U for a combined 68-60 record.

Mediocrity is not the bar we set. We turn our attention to Week Five and will triumph. In the process, win you some MONEY!

The BIG weeks are on the horizon! Get in now while we hit our stride!

WEEK 5:

Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos (-3) (43.5)

As bad as the Denver Broncos have been, the Indianapolis Colts have been worse. The game on Thursday Night could have featured two young, talented running backs in Jonathan Taylor and Javonte Williams. As we now know, Williams is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Jonathan Taylor is in a walking boot. I have to rely on one passing attack--the Broncos get the edge.

Broncos 23

Colts 16

New York Giants at Green Bay Packers (-7.5) (41.5)

The Giants continue to win games somehow. New York is the most remarkable 3-1 team we have seen in some time. The magic runs out on Sunday. The Packers have too much on both sides of the ball. With a banged-up Daniel Jones, the Giants feel outclassed here.

Packers 24

Giants 16

Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills (-14) (47.5)

The Buffalo Bills have not clicked on all cylinders since the opener. The weather was the culprit last week. The week prior, self-inflicted miscues were the issue. This game feels like a get-right spot for the Bills against a Steelers team trying to figure out their identity.

Bills 31

Steelers 16

Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Cleveland Browns (47.5)

The Los Angeles Chargers found their balance a week ago as they got dynamic RB Austin Ekeler more involved in the game plan. The Chargers have much more firepower and are the better team. The Browns can run the ball as well as anyone in the league, which is the Chargers' kryptonite. The ground-and-pound game of the Browns keeps it close for a while, but the Chargers pull away late.

Chargers 27

Browns 20

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-7) (44.5)

I love this spot for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are much improved on both sides of the ball and have looked sensational at times. Returning home, expect a strong performance from Trevor Lawrence.

Jaguars 27

Texans 16

Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings (-6.5) (43)

I love this spot for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings find their balance in this one getting the passing game going with Justin Jefferson but ramping up Dalvin Cook in the running game. The Bears have no such balance and don't trust their passing game. I don't see how the Bears keep pace.

Vikings 27

Bears 17

Detroit Lions at New England Patriots (-3) (46.5)

The Detroit Lions' defense has been non-existent so far in 2022. The issue is that the New England Patriots don't possess much firepower to take advantage. With Bailey Zappe likely under center, the Patriots take a run-first approach. I like the Lions to cover but also steal a victory on the road.

Lions 24

Patriots 20

Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints (-6) (45.5)

We still don't know who will be under center for the New Orleans Saints--Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton. This game will tell us a lot about the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have overachieved in 2022 and have shown grit in surprising victories. Geno Smith looks great under center for Seattle. Take the points in this one, and it wouldn't shock me if Seattle stayed hot and pulled off another upset.

Seahawks 24

Saints 21

Miami Dolphins (-3) at New York Jets (43.5)

Some may shy away from the Dolphins in this spot since QB Tua Tagovailoa will be out. Teddy Bridgewater had extra time to prepare following the Thursday Night game. The Jets can't keep up with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Dolphins 27

Jets 20

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-8) (48.5)

The Buccaneers feel like a team with their back against the wall. The Buccaneers have not met their lofty expectations. The Falcons feel like a team who has overachieved. Combining these two factors, we have a spread that is too low for this match-up. Take full advantage.

Buccaneers 31

Falcons 16

Tennessee Titans (-2.5) at Washington Commanders (42.5)

Last week we thought the Lions/Seahawks was the 'sneaky high-upside game of the week'--we were spot on! This week I like the Tennessee/Washington game to feature some fireworks. Ryan Tannehill and the Titans hold on in a wild affair.

Titans 27

Commanders 24

San Francisco 49ers (-4.5) at Carolina Panthers (40)

Baker Mayfield has been the worst QB in the NFL this year. Now the Panthers have to face perhaps the best defense in the league. This game is a nightmare for Panthers fans. Take the 49ers.

49ers 24

Panthers 13

Philadelphia Eagles (-5) at Arizona Cardinals (49.5)

There will be plenty of points scored in this one. The Cardinals' defense will have no answers for the high-flying Eagles. Kyler Murray attempts to work his 2nd-half magic but falls short.

Eagles 31

Cardinals 24

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams (-4.5) (45.5)

The Rams' offense has looked horrible as of late. The Rams are a one-trick pony, with Cooper Kupp being the trick. The Cowboys' stout defensive front limits the Rams' rushing attack, making this a low-scoring affair.

Rams 23

Cowboys 16

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-3) (47.5)

Sunday Night Football should be a good one, featuring Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow. The Ravens' secondary remains vulnerable against the dynamic passing game of the Bengals. The Bengals have no answer for Lamar Jackson and the unique challenge he brings. I'll lean on the home team in this one.

Ravens 34

Bengals 30

Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-7) (51.5)

The Kansas City Chiefs pulled out all the stops against Tampa Bay last week, jumped all over Tom Brady and company, and never looked back. Expect a similar start in this one, as the Raiders are not prepared to handle what Kansas City can throw at you.

Chiefs 34

Raiders 24
