Sweet 16 Glicks Picks: Thursday 3/23

How sweet it is! The Sweet 16 of March Madness is finally here and we have some incredible matchups to discuss. Glickspicks has you covered for Thursday’s night action in all four games. Now let’s discuss the games we have this evening in New York and Las Vegas.

Michigan State (-1) vs Kansas State 

Both teams come into this matchup off two impressive victories. First, the Wildcats came back and beat blue blood like Kentucky. It was the story of their guard play with Marquis Nowell and Keyonate Johnson shining brightest down the stretch. The Spartans showed tremendous poise and physicality as they dominated a younger-led Shaka Smart Marquette. Tonight’s matchup contrasts styles and should be a terrific game. I am taking Sparty because of the coaching experience in Tom Izzo as he will take advantage of the added time off. Michigan State -1 tonight is my first play.

Arkansas (+4) vs Uconn 

Head coach Eric Musselman continues to maximize Arkansas's window of success in March. Once again as a lower-seeded team, his Razorbacks stunned the number one-seed Kansas Jayhawks to reach the sweet 16. The Huskies out the talented Saint Mary’s squad with the help of Alex Ducas leaving the game because of a back injury. Tonight I think it’s the guards that make the difference. Davonte Davis and Ricky Council IV will lead the Razorbacks to at least cover this four-point spread and could even win the game outright. Glickspicks riding with the Hogs tonight in Vegas.

FAU (+5.5) vs Tennessee

Tonight’s mid-major features the FAU Owls. The incredible turnaround under head coach Dusty May as he brings in a talented squad to face the Volunteers. The Owls continue to make waves and guard Alijah Martin and big man Vladislav Golden is a big reason why. Tennessee's defense is stifling and could be the best remaining on the field. The performance against Duke in the round of 32 was the best defensive game I have seen all of March. Tonight however the Owls will stay within the spread. My pick is FAU plus 5.5 but would put Tennessee ML in a few parlays if that’s an avenue worth exploring.

UCLA (-1) vs Gonzaga 

The last game of the night could be an all-time classic. The last time these foes met each other in March we had the legendary half-court shot from Jalen Suggs. Tonight we could be in store for another March all-timer. I am riding with the Bruins because of defense and the revenge factor. This game will be extremely sweaty the entire night but I trust the Bruins to pull off a nailbiter. Glickspicks ends the night with UCLA -1.
