After suffering an unconscionable loss to the Reds in a game where they led 5-1 at one point, the Texas Rangers are in a nice bounce back spot today. On the bump is a 2022 breakout performer in Martin Perez. 

 

Perez has been solid, but not great to start this year’s campaign. A 3.38 ERA is okay, but we expect more from Marty P. Facing a Reds team that has struck out the second most times in the bigs (224) and has the second highest K rate (26.1%), this is the perfect get right spot. Marty P has tallied five or more strikeouts in two of his four starts this season, but similar to Jordan Montgomery last night, it’s all about picking the right matchup. With the Texas pitcher being arguably the best lefty Cincy will have faced to this point, I believe hitting five punchouts is definitely in the cards tonight.

 

After a slow start, Adolis Garcia went on an absolute tear, batting .400 with six extra base hits and 14 RBI’s, which was good enough to earn him AL Player of the Week. The Rangers lineup will be seeing Reds’ Luke Weaver, making just his second appearance of the young season. In his only outing, Weaver allowed four hits and two taters to the Pirates. Garcia is one of those hitters when he gets hot, he’s tough to cool down. To me, this seems like an opportunity to ride the hot hand.
