Kevin Gausman OVER/UNDER 6 Strikeouts

 

KG has been amazing this year. He’s on pace for a career year with his 54 K/6 BB ratio and 2.33 ERA. He’s certainly solidified himself as the ace of the loaded Toronto Blue Jay staff. How will he fare against a team he has had a lot of success against in recent years?

 

Gausman has notched three games with double digit punchies in his last four outings. The guy is on fire right now. I would really like to know what got into him over the past few years to become one of the top pitchers in the MLB, after a long stretch of being totally average. Anyway, if we look at the matchup he has today, this is a favorable look. Facing a Red Sox team that is actually ranked as one of the best teams in the bigs at not striking out, how does Gausman have an advantage?

 

Remember what I said yesterday when it comes to betting against teams that have good ranks on paper. Sometimes it comes down to my guy being better than yours. In terms of stuff, the red-hot Red Sox have only seen two pitchers on the same level as KG, that would be Corbin Burnes and Shohei Ohtani (left after two innings). That aside, let’s look at the success Gausman had against Boston in 2022.In six outings, he had 47 K’s in 34 innings to go along with a 2.65 ERA. In two of the starts, he logged 10 K’s. In two others, he notched eight and nine K’s, respectively. In fact, Gausman only has less than six strikeouts one time, and that was because he got pulled early. 

 

The bottom line is I like this matchup for the stud Toronto pitcher. Not only do I think he notches at least six strikeouts, but I believe he is a great ladder candidate this evening. You can find him at 10+ K’s at +830. With the recent hot stretch he is on, this would surprise me in the least.

Vladdy Guerrero Jr. OVER/UNDER 1.5 Total Bases

 

To be honest, I really couldn’t decide who I wanted to pick between Vladdy or Bichette. Both are great options that I believe can be in for big nights. Ultimately, Vladdy is a little bit hotter and more consistent than Bo at the moment, so he was my choice by a hair. 

 

Guerreo hit a ball that fell a few feet short of the moon last night. There are very few players in the game that have the kind of raw power and torque that he does. Vladdy Jr. has been crushing the ball lately to bring that average up to a pristine .317. Although the Jays are in danger of getting swept by Boston tonight, the prodigy has done his part with a 5-13 series mark. He has had either an extra base hit or multiple hits in three straight contests. Drawing an inconsistent, there could be opportunities to stay hot.

 

The Sox are throwing high-level prospect, Brayan Bello. Bello has shown flashes of his potential, but has not been able to put it all together. Showing his bloated 6.57 ERA and 1.86 WHIP, it’s hard to say Boston has an advantage tonight when Toronto, as a team, has a career batting average of .444 against Bello. Although it’s a relatively small sample size, it’s quite obvious that there are multiple candidates in this lineup that can inflict a lot of damage. Vladdy is 3-8 against Bello, and I would imagine he might leave the yard again.
