MLB Betting 5/8/23 - HR Predictor

Welcome in to a new article for 2023...the HR Predictor! This will be a daily article, where I use my own research to highlight a few names I think are in a great position to hit a homerun on each days slate! These are low unit bets -- between 0.1 and 0.3 units -- with typically high-odds and we will only need to hit one or two a week to make some money! If you're interested in all of my MLB betting and prop picks, plus access to our PrizePicks Predictor, you can sign-up by clicking HERE. With that being said, let's dive in...

UPDATED HR RECORD: 11-28 +$383.00

Note: This unit scale is $100 = 1 unit.

Brent Rooker +350 (0.2u)

Cortes was a monster for the Yankees last season, but has struggled with the long-ball in 2023 allowing six homeruns over his last three starts. He had elite numbers to both sides of the plate a season ago, but he has been significantly worse against right-handed hitters allowing a .235 ISO in the split -- compared to a .137 mark in 2022. Rooker is tied for 5th in the homerun race currently, and regular playing time for the A's has allowed him to flash the extreme raw power we saw from him in the minors. He has the best numbers on the A's against left-handed pitching and matches up very well with Cortes' pitch-mix. He's relying heavily on his fastball this season, a pitch that Rooker sports a .370 ISO against.

Gleyber Torres +350 (0.2u)

Sticking with the same game, there is value on the Yankees side as well with Gleyber Torres. Torres is the best hitter in this lineup right now with the injuries they've dealt with, and any match-up against the Oakland A's is a good one. The great thing about picking on the A's is that their bullpen is so bad, even if they don't get there the first few at-bats you're never truly dead in the later innings. Torres will match-up with JP Sears to start the game, a lefty who allows a .263 ISO against righties. Like Cortes, he throws a ton of fastballs -- a pitch that Torres has great power numbers against. Harrison Bader was recently brought back up for the Yankees, and he hit two homers over the weekend. Batting from the right side, there is some value in him to hit one at +350 as well.
