Yordan Alvarez OVER/UNDER 1.5 Total Bases

 

The problem with having so many great players on the board at the same time is picking the right ones. It’s incredibly difficult to not pick our guy Yordan Alvarez, especially in the butter matchup he has on deck tonight against the A’s. Alvarez is having a robust month of May, batting .309 with a .951 OPS. Coming off an 0-5 night against the Cubs, it seems like a great opportunity for him to get back on track.

 

Houston will not only see Ken Waldichuk this evening, but they get their point guard back. That’s right! Everybody better head for the hills because Jose Altuve will return for his first game of 2023. When that happens, this Houston lineup could be ready for launch. Altuve provides so much depth for this offense, and consistently boosts the other hitters. In the case of Yodan, he’s smashed .300 against lefties this season, and he will see a pitcher with an ERA north of 7.00 and WHIP higher than 1.80. After giving up a dozen taters on the year, I think Waldichuk is a prime candidate to give one up tonight, something that would be very fitting for Alvarez.

 

Tonight is a game I imagine the Astros score a ton of runs in a big win. I can see several players logging at least two hits. In this case, it seems like a great bet to think Alvarez grabs at least two bases. He’s done so in four of his last seven games.

Shane McClanahan OVER/UNDER 8 Strikeouts

 

It’s so difficult for me to not have Sugar Shane Daddy McClanahan on a write-up when he takes the mound. Believe me, I’ve tried looking at other people, but it’s like he knows when I don’t pick him. He got mopped by the Yankees the other day for his first bad start of the 2023 season. He gets an interesting follow up start with the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers.

 

Although it’s an incredibly high K number for Shane, one that I tried finding ways to take the under, I think it’s still fair. Sure, Shane has only had eight K’s in one of his last four tries, but he faces a Brewers team that is seventh in the MLB in strikeouts. And they are brutal against lefties with a .216 average and .643 OPS, both more than 30 points lower than against right-handers. We talk about it all the time, no lefty can match Sugar Shane. Four pitches with wild movement that he can all throw for strikes. This is not normal, especially for a southpaw. 

 

I do think it’s a high total, which is why I want to take the under, but in this particular case, I do believe our boy can get himself eight punchouts. The Brewers have six players with at least 36 K’s individually this season.
