Week 8 CFB Best Bets: Glicks Picks

We are back for Week 8 of the college football season. An up-and-down road has defined my 2023 season campaign. This week I will look to find some winning consistency formula as we hit the second-half stretch. We have a solid slate of games to pick from and it starts bright and early in Columbus. Let’s look at the games I have my eyes and coin on this weekend.

 #7 Penn State vs #3 Ohio State at 12:00 pm EST:

Argubalby the biggest game of the entire college football season kicks off today. Both teams have everything to play for heading into this tilt. The winner of this game will be in a great position to not only win the conference but play for a national championship. The Nittany Lions of Penn State are red-hot and undefeated ATS. The Buckeyes prevailed in their only true test vs Notre Dame. In this matchup, I favor the underdog only because I believe this Penn State team is the best I have seen in the last decade.

The play: Penn State +4.5

#17 Tennessee vs #11 Alabama at 2:30 pm EST:

The Crimson Tide are looking to showcase why they are undefeated in the SEC. Last week was anything from impressive as they squeaked past Arkansas. Now they face a Tennessee team looking for their first marquee win. Both teams have elite speed and will be decided in the secondary for Alabama. I favor the Crimson Tide because of that stout defense. In terms of the spread I still like them to cover and exploit some of the holes this Volunteer team has.

The play: Bama -8.5

Texas Tech vs BYU at 7:00 pm EST:

We head to Provo Utah for this Big 12 clash. Both teams are in desperate need of a win. The Cougar's defense has been completely absent in recent weeks giving up massive chunk plays. I love points to be scored in this game. Given BYU’s struggles last week on offense they are due for a major bounce back this week. Texas Tech's defense has been bad as well including last week’s trashing against Kansas State. This game should soar over with both of these defenses.

The play: Over 51

#16 Duke vs #4 Florida State at 7:30 pm EST:

The Blue Devils head under the lights to face national title contender Florida State. Quarterback Jordan Travis will have his work cut out for him against one of the best defenses in the country. Duke showed how great they can be definitely routing NC State without quarterback Riley Leonard. According to what I know I expect Leonard to play and if he does I love Duke in this spot. We have seen Florida State struggle at times to quality defensive squads like Clemson. I will take Duke with the points in this spot during primetime.

The play: Duke +14.5

Mid Major Special:

Toledo vs Miami Ohio at 4:00 pm EST:

This is by far the best game on the mid-major football slate. Both of these squads enter the contest without a conference loss. These are the two big dogs in the MAC and both teams have lived up to expectations. Toledo gets it done with their offense and big playmakers. Miami Ohio is very physical and explosive on the line of scrimmage. I love betting on the home dog with the better defense in this game. Have won my last couple of mid-major specials, let’s go for another today!
