Week 9 CFB Best Bets: Glicks Picks

Welcome to Week 9 of the college picks. An up-and-down season was continued last week going 2-3 losing some heartbreakers and getting an unfortunate break in the Duke game. I am going to change it up this week completely. I will be giving my five usual plays however they will all be from the group of five. Given the softer slate thought it was an opportunity to shed some light on this excellent group of five matchups.

Miami (OH) at Ohio 3:30 pm EST:

The Redhawks will be looking to bounce back against in-state rival Ohio. Massive implications are at play in this MAC East showdown. Two contrast styles will also be put to the test as Miami Ohio likes to air it out, and Ohio is stout defensively. With Miami’s quarterback still hurt it’s hard to back them in this spot. I think Ohio will control the pace of play and keep this very low-scoring. My play will be a 2 leg teaser favoring defense and Ohio.

#22 Tulane at Rice 4:00 pm EST:

We head to Houston Texas for a quality American Athletic Conference tilt. Both teams bring in elite quarterbacks and explosive offenses. Tulane once again shows why they are the class of this conference with the perfect conference record. Rice has been one of the league's pleasant surprises in the first half of the season. I like points to be scored and Rice to keep this game relatively close. Again going back to a 2 leg teaser to take us home.

#19 Air Force at Colorado State 7:00 pm EST:

The Falcons of the Air Force continue their quest as the best Power Five team in college football. Once again they will be tested in an improved Mountain West Conference. The Rams have been extremely competitive all season and have been a pest at home. Colorado State has enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to keep this competitive and stay within the number. Air Force is really good but hard backing them with this many points.

The play: Colorado State +14.5

Troy at Texas State 7:00 pm EST:

Did someone say FUN BELT? Yes, we have another excellent matchup in the most consistent competitive league in college football. Both teams are off to 5-2 starts in a loaded Sun Belt Conference. The winner of this game will set themselves up with a collision course with South Alabama about who goes to the championship game. Troy does it with defense and Texas State does it with offense. Expect an electric crowd under the lights in San Marcos Texas Saturday night. Feed me the Kats with the points and won’t be surprised if they take this game outright.

The play: Texas State +7

UNLV at Fresno State 10:30 pm EST:

We end this week with an incredible game out west and to close out the Saturday slate. Both teams enter this contest at 6-1 with eyes on a conference crown. UNLV has surprised a lot of people with this year’s success. Fresno State we might have expected that both teams took out power conference teams early in the season. The offense will be on heavy display in this contest. I believe in these Bulldogs and think they can outscore the Rebels in front of an energetic crowd. One more teaser to take us to the promised land.
