06-17-2020

With the Belmont Stakes draw now official, we have a field of 10 contenders lined up for the historic race. For the first time, the Belmont Stakes is being run as the first leg of the Triple Crown at a distance of 9 furlongs rather than the traditional 12 furlongs. Below I have identified some trip notes for the 10 contenders. If you want to see exactly how we are betting the race, you'll have to subscribe and join us in the premium discord channel!

BELMONT STAKES - SATURDAY JUNE 20, 2020
Post Horse Race Trip Notes
1 Tap It to Win (6/1) 6/4/2020 Made all early. Widened lead to 2L at 2C. Sharp pace 45.3/109.2. Ridden out under hand ride. Big effort, and now wheels back in 2 weeks. Likely will have to rate off the pace due to Fore Left being entered. Could be peaking at the right time for this.
5/9/2020 Stalked pace 3L back, tipped wide in stretch. Place horse was well clear of field and came back to win.
10/27/2019 Off slow, moved up. In tight behind wall of horses, shuffled back in turn, rider never asked entire length of stretch.
10/5/2019 Made lead early, had issues in first turn tossing head. Rank. Fall back to 2nd. Done after 6f. Was against strong outside closer bias.
2 Sole Volante (9/2) 6/10/2020 Away cleanly, dropped back to last. Sizzling 2 horse duel for lead (FoY runners up ete indian + shivaree) with what seemed to be fast pace (timing errors). Hand ride the whole race, up easy for win. Runner up was a horse who broke maiden in maiden claiming and was exiting a claiming race. Win appeared effortless but had great setup and now wheels back on only 10 days rest. Would stand to benefit from a pace duel up front.
3/7/2020 Broke towards rear, moved to rail. Inside both turns. Was one of the few horses to make up any ground as the horses who were 1-2-3 at 1C ran 4-1-3. Winner (King G) returned to run a game second to Nadal in the G1 Arkansas Derby.
3 Max Player (15/1) 2/1/2020 Midpack, ridden along to keep up early. Ridden along hard in far turn, grinded away in stretch. Show and place horses have not won since. Race only produced 2 winners, a parx allowance and turfway listed stakes.
4 Modernist (15/1) 3/21/2020 4W into 1T. 3W into 2T. Chased lone leader on uncontested pace, horses who were 1-2 at 1C ran 1-2. Pronounced speed bias. 4th place finisher Major Fed ran 10th in Matt Winn next out. Winner Wells Bayou ran 5th in Ark Derby next out. 2nd place NY Traffic ran 2nd in Matt Winn. No horse from this race has come back to win a race since, including multiple losses at allowance races.
2/15/2020 Great trip on rail (+ inside speed bias). Outdueled ny traffic inside, horses that were 1-2 at 1C ran 1-3.
5 Farmington Road (15/1) 5/2/2020 Last away. Sharp pace. Fell nearly 15L back, rider asked at 6f pole, passed a few in the 2-3path going down BS into 2T. Passed tired horses late but never threat to top 2.
4/11/2020 Bobbled, bumped break. Jock briefly lost balance, then steered towards 2path towards rear of field. Very fast pace. Moved up in BS, angled widest into stretch following eventual winner. Flying late widest in stretch when jock goes to right hand whip and horse lugs in badly, loses momentum and jock has to straighten him out. Kept trying throughout lane but ran out of time.
6 Fore Left (30/1) 2/6/2020 Raced overseas in Meydan. Quickest away from far outside draw. Cleared over to rail into 1T on uncontested lead. Opened up 6L in the stretch while tiring late to hold off late runners. A respectable effort, but does not seem like one who wants to go farther than 7 furlongs.
7 Jungle Runner (50/1) 5/2/2020 Taken in hand early, raced at rear along rail. One paced throughout and never got a call. In over his head again today.
8 Tiz the law (6/5) 3/28/2020 Broke well. Tracked pace 2L off. Made move into far turn, went as rider pleased. Potentially against inside speed bias that carried 80-1 Shivaree to hold for place.
2/1/2020 Broke great. Either hated being inside horses or jock had very strict orders to stay out of traffic trouble after last race debacle. Slammed on brakes down BS losing 1.5L, steered outside, re-rallied. Easy win, big effort.
9 Dr Post (5/1) 4/25/2020 Midpack early, shuffled back a bit at 1C while in tight. Bunched up group as only 3L covered the field. In tight again on 2T. Slightly forced to steady at 2T while still in tight with nowhere to go. Forced a path out wide, in tight again in stretch when leader lugged out on him, took bumps and went on to win gamely. Better than looked effort. 3 horses to race again all lost (2 in allowance, place horse ran 4th in G3 Matt Winn).
3/29/2020 Broke outward from 12 post, pushed along to keep up. Unable to save ground, 3W into turn. Bore out slightly in turn. Late to switch leads, bumped with foe in stretch, good enough. Place horse (Dr Post's stablemate, another Pletcher) had the lead by himself entire race, only caught late and well clear of others.
10 Pneumatic (8/1) 5/23/2020 Broke from rail, showed some early speed rating inside on rail. Moved up at the half mile inside 2 others off moderately slow pace. Couldn't hold off top 2 despite better trip.
4/11/2020 Wide into 1T, tucked in 3L back on BS. Moved up in far turn. Easy winner. Place horse came back to win NY bred stakes next out.
