Will's Best College Football Bet - Week 8

2020 College Football Record:

6-3, +5.92 units

Kansas State at West Virginia (-5)

Last week, I faded West Virginia for my best bet of the week, and sure enough, they lost to Texas Tech as part of my 3-0 slate.

But this week, I’m taking the Mountaineers.

Kansas State has not yet fully felt the effects of Skylar Thompson’s season ending injury, and I think that will change this week. Backup QB Will Howard struggled against TCU two weeks ago, completing just 8 of his 19 passes.

Yes, he played well against Kansas last week, but I’m pretty sure a decent JV high school QB could hang with Kansas.

I see Howard struggling against a West Virginia defense that is incredibly solid. The Mountaineers rank 2nd in the Big 10 allowing just 21.2 PPG. They have the best pass defense in the conference, allowing just 152.6 yards per game, and have tallied 6 INTs this season.

Kansas State’s defense is pretty solid as well, but I love the combination of Jarrett Doege and Ledde Brown and believe they’ll be able to find success against the Wildcats.

Brown is 3rd in the Big 12 in rushing yards per game, averaging 118. Doege has put up solid numbers this season, with 1,389 yards (ranked 16th nationally) with 9 TDs and 3 INTs.

This West Virginia offense has the potential to put up points and I don’t see an inexperienced backup QB on the other side being able to run with them.

Kansas State has been the trendy pick and the public is pounding the Wildcats, which makes me feel even more confident about West Virginia.

Also, there has been some serious reverse line movement in recent days, as the line has shifted from -2.5 all the way to -5. Vegas is begging people to take Kansas State. So let’s take WVU.

The play: West Virginia -5, (-110), 1 unit to win .91 units.
