Rutgers is coming home off back-to-back losses. Rutgers has one of the more exaggerated home/road splits, even without a packed house at the RAC this season. They got embarrassed at Michigan State, shooting their season lows from the field, from three, and from the free throw line. While they aren’t a good free throw shooting team, they typically shoot really well from three and from two. I expect Coach Pikiell hammered these guys the past few days after that one. Now they turn the page to a revenge spot against Ohio State.
The Buckeyes beat Rutgers at home just before Christmas in a game they actually trailed throughout, right up until Rutgers big man Myles Johnson fouled out with 5 minutes left and momentum shifted. Ohio State point guard CJ Walker didn’t have a good game in that win, but now he will be out entirely in the rematch. Walker tore a ligament in his hand and this will be OSU’s first game without the senior point guard. Duane Washington Jr. will likely slide over from the SG spot to run point. Sharp shooter Justin Ahrens and Bucknell transfer Jimmy Sotos will likely receive a bump in minutes.
Rutgers is likely due for positive shooting regression, and they’re highly motivated in a revenge spot coming off an awful performance and back to back losses. Ohio State has yet to impress outside the state of Ohio, and now they have to adjust on the fly to life without CJ Walker. Everything about this matchup screams Rutgers redemption to me.
Rutgers -3.5 (-110) vs Ohio State
