Brad's Best Bets - Can Schmeichel keep up the perfect start?

World Cup Qualification has resumed, and teams are vying for their shot at a chance to hoist soccer’s most prestigious prize. The six FIFA confederations must determine the 31 (Qatar auto qualifiers) other teams which will make up the field for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. For teams like Argentina and Uruguay, the road has been made more difficult as a few players have been disallowed by their clubs to leave for international matches; citing Covid-19 quarantine rules as the reason for the exclusion.

Faroe Islands vs Denmark: Saturday at 2:45 p.m. ET

Line: Faroe Islands +2.5 (-110) | Denmark -2.5 (-105)

For today’s action we turn our attention to Faroe Islands as they host Denmark. The spread has been set at -2.5 and rightfully so. The last time Denmark took on Faroe Islands, they not only shut out the hosts but were able to win 4-0. With the previous contest only being a friendly, Denmark rotated a few players. They were still able to control the pace of the game and limit the amount of shots Faroe were able to get off.

I expect this match to have similar results. If you look solely at the FIFA rankings, Denmark sit at #10 while Faroe Islands sit at #113. For Denmark it starts with the man between the pipes. Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel is one of soccer’s best keepers. Schmeichel is looking to build on his 100% clean sheet mark in World Cup Qualification.

The Danes are as legit as they come, outscoring their opponents 16-0 in this stage. While Faroe Islands have been outscored 2-12. I expect this match to get out of hand for Faroe Island’s early and would be hard pressed to see them find the back of the net. Should Denmark rotate players, they have proved they are deep and have talent to make light work of Faroe Islands. I am placing 1 unit on Denmark -2.5 (-105).
