<h2>Duke vs North Carolina - Final Four Betting Preview</h2>

In one of the craziest NCAA Tournaments college basketball has ever seen, we are now left with a complete Blue Blood Final Four!&nbsp;&nbsp;Kansas vs Villanova.&nbsp; Duke vs North Carolina.&nbsp; It&#39;s hard to believe Duke and North Carolina are meeting&nbsp;for the first time in NCAA Tournament history...&nbsp;and it just happens to be in the Final Four.... in Coach K&#39;s last season... and Coach Hubert Davis&#39; first season.&nbsp; Who wrote this script?&nbsp; Because they did an excellent job!

The two teams met twice already in ACC play.&nbsp; Duke won by 20 in the Dean Dome, and then North Carolina spoiled Coach K&#39;s final home game.&nbsp; You do not want to miss this epic rubber match Saturday night.

<h2>Game Total - Over or Under</h2>

Both of these teams actually have a lot in common.&nbsp; They both prefer up-tempo pace of play, rank top 20 in offensive efficiency, top 50 in 3 point percentage, and have statistically better offense than defense.&nbsp; The previous two matchups ended with 175 total points and 154 total points.&nbsp; UNC&#39;s Leaky Black is the lone elite defender in this game, but there are various lethal perimeter shooters - Brady Manek, RJ Davis, Caleb Love, AJ Griffin, and Wendell Moore all shoot 37% or better from three.&nbsp; With an over/under of 151 for Saturday&#39;s game, I certainly favor the over.&nbsp; Points, points, points!

<h2>Matchup - Duke or UNC</h2>

At this point in the tournament, I would not be completely shocked if any of these four blue bloods won the national championship.&nbsp; WIth that said, I certainly think the favorites in each game are well deserved.&nbsp; Duke is playing like the best team in the country.&nbsp; They have the most future-NBA talent.&nbsp; They seem like the team of destiny.&nbsp;&nbsp;

North Carolina has shot the heck out of the ball this tournament, aside from the St. Peter&#39;s game where they physically dominated the Peacocks.&nbsp; Duke has made considerably less threes than UNC, but Duke made them more efficiently.&nbsp; Duke relies more heavily on their two point offense, which in general is more reliable and less susceptible to a cold shooting night.&nbsp; Duke has a lethal transition attack, and I think UNC&#39;s up-tempo pace will allow transition opportunities.&nbsp; More importantly, Duke has been closing games with one of the best half court offenses in the country (9th most efficient non-transition offense, per <a href="https://www.hoop-math.com/leader_to2022.php">Hoop-Math</a>), and an insanely efficient late game iso-game.&nbsp;

One of those closers is Sophomore point guard Jeremy Roach, who has been a revelation in this tournament.&nbsp; With the extended media timeouts that come with March Madness, many coaches cut down their rotation.&nbsp; Coach K and Jon Scheyer did just that, as Roach has played at least 35 minutes per game in the NCAA Tournament.&nbsp; Roach is averaging neary 13 points per game in that stretch, compared to just 8.6 on the season.&nbsp; He scored 49 points combined (12.25 ppg avg.) in his previous four games matched up with UNC&#39;s Caleb Love.&nbsp; I like Roach to score in double figures here, including some key floaters in the clutch to help Duke win in crunch time.

<h2>Kansas Jayhawks vs Providence Friars</h2>

After a wild first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, March Madness continues&nbsp;with eight games on Thursday and Friday as the Sweet Sixteen teams compete to make the Elite Eight.&nbsp; On Friday night, one of the three remaining 1-seeds, Kansas, takes on one of the three remaining 4-seeds, Providence.&nbsp; Kansas swept the Big 12 with a regular season championship and conference tournament championship.&nbsp; Providence won the Big East regular season championship for the first time in coach Ed Cooley&#39;s career.&nbsp; Kansas rolled past Texas Southern in their first game of the tournament before struggling a bit with an injury-riddled Creighton team.&nbsp; Meanwhile, Providence got by South Dakota State and then blew the doors off of Richmond.

<h2>A Tale Of Two Speeds</h2>

From a stylistic perspective, these teams are polar opposites.&nbsp; Simply put, Kansas likes to go fast while Providence likes to go slow.&nbsp; Of the 16 teams remaining in the tournament, Kansas&#39; offense runs the third quickest tempo while Providence runs the third slowest offense.&nbsp; In this type of contrasting fast vs slow play style matchup, the slower team usually has an easier chance of dictating pace of play.&nbsp; Providence will grind the game down to a slow pace, limiting the number of offensive possessions Kansas gets.&nbsp; In the 5 lowest possession games Kansas played this season, the Jayhawks went 4-1 with their 4 wins coming by an average of 2.25 points each.&nbsp;

If it truly comes down to the last possession, I&#39;d may even favor Providence straight up in that scenario.&nbsp; The Friars are 3-0 in overtime (or double OT) games this season, and 11-0 in games decided by 5 points or less.&nbsp; In conference play Kansas went 7-1 in games that were decided by 4 points or less or OT, so they&#39;re no pushover in close games either.&nbsp; However,&nbsp;the fact that 8 of Kansas&#39;&nbsp;18 Big 12 games (44%) were that close leads me to believe this one should likely also come down to the last possession or two.&nbsp; I think it&#39;s a TALL task to ask Kansas to win by more than 3 possessions.

From a player perspective, I think PC can hang with KU too.&nbsp; Down low, Proividence&#39;s big man Nate Watson may actually be better than David McCormack.&nbsp; 6&#39;7&quot; Justin Minaya is an elite defender with the speed and size to&nbsp;potentially limit the efficiency of Kansas&#39; two leading scorers, Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun.&nbsp; Providence has multiple 40%+ shooters from beyond the arc too.&nbsp; With all the &quot;luck talk&quot; about Providence, many people (including myself) have faded PC in certain spots this season, but typically as a favorite.&nbsp; As a significant underdog here, I find myself favoring Ed Cooley&#39;s Friar over Bill Self&#39;s Jayhawks.&nbsp; If you know me, you know I&#39;m typically fond of Kansas, so trust me, this is as unbiased of an opinion on this matchup as you can find anywhere.

<h2>2022 NCAA Basketball Champion - Who Can Really Win It This Year?</h2>

Who can&nbsp;actually&nbsp;win the NCAA Basketball Championship this year?&nbsp; Some people think only the 1-seeds can.&nbsp; Others will say there are 20 teams than can win it all.&nbsp; I disagree with both.

Over the last 20 tournaments there are key statistical trends to pay attention to.&nbsp; All but one champion has finished the season&nbsp;in the top 20 for both offensive and defensive efficiency ratings (per <a href="https://kenpom.com/">KenPom</a>).&nbsp; The lone exception was Connecticut in 2014 (not the Kemba Walker UConn team, but the Shabazz Napier one).&nbsp; There are only a handful of teams that fit those perameters this season: 
- Gonzaga 
- Arizona 
- Baylor 
- UCLA 
- Houston

It is worth noting another few teams that lay right on the edge of the cutoff, and a winning tournament run would definitely land them inside the top 20 efficiency on both sides of the ball: 
- Kentucky 
- Kansas 
- Auburn 
- Villanova

So those are the nine teams I believe can actually win the NCAA Championship, from a statistical perspective.&nbsp; From an eye test, I would create a short list by&nbsp;removing&nbsp;a few teams.&nbsp; Baylor&#39;s injuries hurt their ceiling and their reliability - Jonathan Tchamba Tchatchoua was the anchor of their interior defense, and LJ Cryer was the team&#39;s leading scorer and best three point shooter.&nbsp; UCLA&#39;s offense relies heavily on mid-range jump shots - the least efficient shot in the sport.&nbsp; Houston has a 5-seed and thus a difficult path, and they&#39;re horrible from the free throw line.&nbsp; Auburn is a poor three point shooting team and I simply do not trust their point guard.

So that leaves 5 teams that I believe could actually win it all.&nbsp; Three of them happen to be Final Four teams in my bracket.&nbsp; Here is my bracket, followed by an explanation why each of those three teams could win it all.

<h3>Gonzaga Bulldogs</h3>

When Gonzaga finished last season with a 31-1 record after losing to Baylor in the championship game, Drew Timme said he would be back to finish what they started.&nbsp; I believe the Mustache Man.&nbsp; This season&#39;s team isn&#39;t as dominant as last season&#39;s undefeated team (obviously), but I think there&#39;s a case to be made that this team is more talented.&nbsp; Future NBA lottery pick Chet Holmgren is the rim protector Gonzaga has been missing.&nbsp; He&#39;s having an Anthony Davis type season... Do you remember what Anthony Davis&#39; Kentucky team did?&nbsp; Yep, they won it all.&nbsp; This Gonzaga team is elite on both sides of the ball, they have experience, talent, size, and a great point guard.&nbsp; They even have two McDonald&#39;s All American guards coming off the bench, so how&#39;s that for talent AND depth?

And please, can we stop the false narrative that &quot;Gonzaga doesn&#39;t play anyone so they always choke in March&quot;?&nbsp; That&#39;s simply not true at all.&nbsp; Gonzaga has been to the national championship game in two of the past four tournaments.&nbsp; That&#39;s incredible!&nbsp; They even held the lead over North Carolina with less than two minutes to play in the 2017 national championship.&nbsp; When they&#39;re not making national title games, the Zags are making Sweet Sixteens and Elite Eights (two of each in the past six tournaments).&nbsp; The Zags have more NCAA Tournament wins than ANY other team in the country since 2013.&nbsp; This season, Gonzaga beat UCLA, Texas Tech and Texas&nbsp;all by double digits.&nbsp; They lost to Duke by 3 in a coin flip ending.&nbsp; They are for real, and they are out to finish the job&nbsp;&agrave; la&nbsp;2017 North Carolina.

<h3>Arizona Wildcats</h3>

I believe in Gonzaga as a powerhouse program so much, that when 20-year assistant Tommy Lloyd left Spokane to take the head coaching job at Arizona I&nbsp;jumped on Arizona Final Four futures (15 to 1) and National Championship futures (70 to 1) back in November.&nbsp; The Wildcats are 31-3 after rolling through the Pac 12 and have a non-conference win at Illinois and a narrow, foul-driven loss at Tennessee.&nbsp; Arizona is statistically dominant, with top 10 ratings in both offensive and defensive effective field goal percentage.&nbsp; They have a dominant, rim-protecting center in Christian Koloko and&nbsp;a future NBA lottery pick wing in Bennedict Mathurin.&nbsp; However, the concern&nbsp;is around point guard play, which is crucial in March Madness.&nbsp; Second-year Kerr Kriisa has done a fine job running point all season, but in the Pac 12 tournament he suffered a rolled ankle and posted <a href="https://mobile.twitter.com/KerrKriisa/status/1503249701411311623?cxt=HHwWjsCq1fHoztwpAAAA">this gross picture</a>&nbsp;of his bruised ankle on his Twitter.&nbsp; Hopefully he makes it back for their second round game.&nbsp; Though, I&#39;m no doctor, but that picture looks brutal.

<h3>Kentucky Wildcats</h3>

Kentucky is a two seed, but from my perspective they are a top three team in the country.&nbsp; Big Man Oscar Tshiebwe is the best rebounder in the country and is likely to win a National Player of the Year award.&nbsp; TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler make up an elite point guard duo that we&#39;ve seen so many national championship teams have.&nbsp; Kentucky battled injuries yet still finished second in a stacked SEC.&nbsp; Outside the conference, UK has shown up in big games this year, routing North Carolina by 29 in Las Vegas and beating Kansas by 18 in Allen Fieldhouse - where Kansas was otherwise undefeated this season.&nbsp; Road games in college basketball are always&nbsp;tough, but I&#39;ve always thought a Saturday road game is even tougher.&nbsp; Kentucky played a brutal schedule with more tough Saturday road games than any team in the tournament.&nbsp; Cal&#39;s Cats fought through a schedule including road Saturday games at Kansas, Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Florida.&nbsp; Talk about being battle tested.

<h2>Major Conference Tournaments</h2>

Champ Week is here! Three automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament have already been won.&nbsp; Over the next seven days 29 more auto-bids will be awarded to conference tournaments champions.&nbsp; The &lsquo;Power Six&rsquo; major conference tournaments begin this week and I&rsquo;m giving my pick to win and a sleeper team for all six tournaments.&nbsp;

<a href="https://betkarma.com/article/649/doms-cbb-top-25-3-8-21">I wrote a similar article last year</a> and we crushed it.&nbsp;If you had bet one unit on each of my picks and sleepers for the Power Six conferences, you would have profited just shy of 17 units.&nbsp;Overall, we nailed three of the six conference tournaments. In both the Big Ten and SEC my pick beat my sleeper in the championship game. In the ACC my sleeper won the tournament. Of the other three conferences I whiffed on, two saw what&rsquo;s known as bid-stealers win the tournaments. Georgetown and Oregon State were nowhere near the bubble - their only shot at an NCAA Tournament appearance was to defy all expectations and win their conference tournaments... and they did just that.&nbsp; Expect the unexpected in March.&nbsp;

<h3>ACC</h3>

My pick: Duke -125 (CZR) 
Not a great price, but Duke is by far the best team in a very down year for the ACC.&nbsp; Coming off an embarasing&nbsp;and frankly hilarious loss to rival North Carolina in Coach K&#39;s final game at Cameron Indoor, Duke&#39;s nerves and tightness should be out the window now.&nbsp; I&#39;d like to see Paolo Banchero get more aggressive on offense, as basically nobody in the league can guard him one on one.

Sleeper: Notre Dame +1000 (CZR) 
The Irish are the #2 seed and start on&nbsp;the other side of the bracket from Duke.&nbsp; They aren&#39;t a sexy team, but they do everything a&nbsp;typical Mike Brey&nbsp;team does best: best 3pt shooting team in conference, pass the ball well, don&#39;t turn the ball over, and don&#39;t foul on defense.

<h3>Big 10</h3>

My pick: Purdue +220 (DK) 
Motivation goes a long way in this tournament, and Purdue should be plenty motivated after falling one game short of winning a share of the regular season title.&nbsp; The biggest scare on their side of the bracket is Wisconsin, who beat Purdue twice this year (behind a career game from Johnny Davis and a banked three from Chucky Hepburn).&nbsp; In a neutral site tournament setting I&#39;ll ride with the Boilermakers&#39; size, rebounding, shooting and free throw advantages.

Sleeper: Michigan +2800 (FD) 
Michigan&nbsp;would need to win four games in four days, but they did it in 2017 and 2018.&nbsp; With Juwan Howard back from suspension, I could see a possibility for a magical run.

<h3>Big 12</h3>

My pick: Texas Tech +380 (FD) 
This tournament has been mostly dominated by Kansas and Iowa State, so it takes courage to go against the grain.&nbsp; However, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have been the best team in the Big 12 by my eye test.&nbsp; Baylor has never won the Big 12 tournament and now they can&#39;t stay healthy.&nbsp; Kansas is the justifiable favorite but they sure look&nbsp;erratic at times.&nbsp; Texas Tech will bring it on defense every single game, and even when their offense is off they are hardly ever out of games.&nbsp; Three of their six league losses came by only one possession.&nbsp; I trust Mark Adams to come up with great gameplans and make a statement in his first year as head coach in Lubbock.

Sleeper: Texas +650 (FD) 
The Longhorns swept TCU and split with Kansas.&nbsp; Their path to the finals is actually pretty achievable.&nbsp; Chris Beard may get his team to hit the reset button and go for back to back Big 12 tournament titles.

<h3>Big East</h3>

My pick: Villanova +165 (FD) 
Jay Wright&#39;s Wildcats have won four of the past six Big East tournaments.&nbsp; Senior point guard Collin Gillespie is shooting 43% from three and 92% from the free throw line.&nbsp; When it comes down to crunch time I trust Gillespie more than anyone else in the conference.

Sleeper: Marquette +800&nbsp;(DK) 
Shaka Smart won the Big 12 tournament at Texas last year.&nbsp; This year, Smart&#39;s Marquette team had a 7-game winning streak in the middle of Big East play in January.&nbsp; They&#39;ve been on and since then, but can they hit the reset button and string together 3 big wins now?&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h3>Pac 12</h3>

My pick: Arizona +100 (BS) 
Tommy Lloyd is just used to winning conference tournaments.&nbsp; As an assistant coach at Gonzaga he won 8 of the past 10 WCC tournaments and 16 of his 21 seasons in Spokane.&nbsp; Now in Tucson, his Arizona team leads the Pac 12 in effective field goal percentage both offensively and defensively.&nbsp; Arizona is by far the best team in the conference, and if they put their heart into it I have no doubt they can win this tournament.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sleeper: Arizona State +25000 (FD) 
Rather than pick between a middling trio of UCLA, USC or Colorado who each have byes, I&#39;ll take a longshot severely underpriced on FanDuel.&nbsp; The other major books have ASU priced between +4000 to +7000.&nbsp; Obviously ASU has the toughest path with a&nbsp;second round game against Arizona, but Arizona State has been hot recently and crazier things have happened (like Oregon State winning the Pac 12 tournament last year).&nbsp; Arizona State has been the 12th best team in the country since February 12, according to <a href="https://barttorvik.com/#">Bart Torvik&#39;s</a> customizable T-Rank.

<h3>SEC</h3>

My pick: Kentucky +200 (FD) 
John Calipari&#39;s Wildcats have won four of the past six SEC tournaments.&nbsp; Big man Oscar Tshiebwe is going to win a National Player of the Year award.&nbsp; With TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler both healthy, Kentucky may be the best team in the country.

Sleeper: Tennessee +400 (BS) 
The Vols have only lost one SEC game since&nbsp;January 18th. &nbsp;If they get past Kentucky I think they go on to win the championship game as well.

<h2>Mid-Major Conference Tournaments</h2>

March is here and&nbsp;conferences are tipping off their tournaments this week.&nbsp; Champ Week is right around the corner - the first auto-bids to the NCAA Tournament will be handed out this weekend.&nbsp; There is always money to be made this time of year, especially with conference tournament futures.&nbsp; I will soon have previews and bets for the major conference tournaments (<a href="https://betkarma.com/article/649/doms-cbb-top-25-3-8-21">we crushed them last year</a>) but for now let&#39;s focus on a few smaller conferences with talented teams: the MVC, ASUN, and MAAC.&nbsp; While anything can happen in mid major conference tournaments, these three have some talented favorites that I actually trust.

<h3>Missouri Valley Conference</h3>

&quot;Arch Madness&quot; tips off Thursday, March 3 in Saint Louis.&nbsp; The MVC has a long history of producing NCAA Tournament Cinderella teams including Final Four teams Loyola Chicago and Wichita State, and five total Sweet Sixteen teams since 2010.&nbsp; This year there looks to be a handful of teams with the potential for magic in March.

Loyola Chicago&nbsp;(+130) is the defending champ, but hasn&#39;t been able to string together more than two wins in a row since mid January.&nbsp; Junior Marquise Kennedy is set to return after missing the last eight games.&nbsp; Perhaps Kennedy is the spark the Ramblers need to make a run.

Northern Iowa (+490)&nbsp;is this year&#39;s 1-seed and are led by the conference player of the year AJ Green.&nbsp; Green missed most of last season due to injury and came back with a vengeance this year.&nbsp; UNI and Loyola are set to meet each other in the semi-finals if they win their first games.&nbsp; I think the team that will be waiting for them in the finals is Missouri State.

Missouri State (+490)&nbsp;is my bet to win the MVC.&nbsp; On the &#39;easier&#39; side of the bracket, MO State&#39;s path to the finals is gauranteed to include matchups against&nbsp;two teams they have already beaten twice.&nbsp; I am not a believer in the old phrase &quot;it&#39;s hard to beat a team three times&quot; -&nbsp;I actually think the opposite is true.&nbsp; The Bears have two true stars in upperclassmen Isiaih Mosely and Gaige Prim.&nbsp; With that star power&nbsp;and a somewhat favorable draw in the bracket, I love the nearly 5 to 1 odds here.

The ASUN conference tournament actually started on Tuesday.&nbsp; With the quarterfinals on Thursday, semis on Saturday, and finals next Tuesday, this tournament is pretty spaced out.&nbsp; There was really only one team I had my eye on for this one, and it happens to be the favorite.

Liberty (+130) has never lost an ASUN tournament game since they joined the conference in 2018.&nbsp; The Flames have the best coach in the conference, Ritchie McKay, and the best scorer in the conference, Darius McGhee.&nbsp; 5&#39;9&quot; senior McGhee is the second leading scorer in the country with 24.7 points per game.&nbsp; McKay&#39;s pack line defense has not been elite this year, but any defensive weaknesses have been offset by Liberty taking and making more threes than pretty much any team in the country.&nbsp;

Liberty surprisingly lost two home games this season after going three seasons with only one total home loss in that span.&nbsp; The Flames&#39; elite home court advantage is key in this tournament taking place at&nbsp;campus sites, where Liberty would be host in every game except for a potential championship matchup against Jacksonville State.

<h3>Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)</h3>

Iona (-143) has dominated the MAAC tournament for the past decade.&nbsp; Coach Tim Cluess won the conference tournament 5 times for auto bids and took Iona to six NCAA Tournaments since 2011.&nbsp; When he retired his shoes were certainly filled, as Hall of Famer Rick Pitino stepped in and won the auto bid last year.&nbsp; Regardless of his questionable personal history, Pitino is in my opinion the best basketball coach on the planet.&nbsp; The guy just wins championships - whether it be at Louisville, in Greece, or last year in the MAAC tournament with Iona.&nbsp; Pitino assembled talented transfers from higher level programs like SMU, Louisville and Tulsa to pair with some returning experience.&nbsp; The result was this year&#39;s Gaels being even better than last year.&nbsp; Iona&#39;s resume includes neutral site wins over Alabama and Liberty, and a MAAC regular season championship already locked up with two games yet to play.&nbsp; Iona will be the top seed and I expect them to win the tournament and punch their ticket to the big dance.

Indiana ranges from 3 to 4&nbsp;point favorites on the road in Sunday&#39;s Big Ten matchup with Minnesota.&nbsp; The two first-year coaches faced off in Bloomington last month.&nbsp; The Hoosiers came away with a 13-point victory at home, in a balanced scoring effort including 13 points by Rob Phinisee on 4 of 9 makes from three.&nbsp; Indiana sits in the middle of the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 8-9, while Minnesota sits near the bottom at 4-13.

Indiana has only two road wins all season to go with seven road losses, while Minnesota is 8-6 at home.&nbsp; &#39;The Barn&#39; in Minneapolis has traditionally been a tough place to win in the Big Ten, perhaps a result of both travel (geographically the furthest northwest team in the conference) and the uniquely elevated floor they play on.

<h3>Matchup</h3>

In the previous matchup, Minnesota clogged the interior and often helped on Trayce Jackson-Davis.&nbsp; Indiana was able to hit open shots from the perimeter, which then forced the Gophers&#39; interior defense to spread back out.&nbsp; Phinisee hitting 4 of 9 from deep helped a lot.&nbsp; With Phinisee doubtful to play tonight, Indiana may struggle to hit perimeter shots when the paint gets clogged again.&nbsp; Indiana ranks second to last in Big Ten play when it comes to three point shooting, making only 31.5% from deep (per <a href="https://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Indiana">kenpom</a>).

Minnesota certainly has lacked stellar performances on offense as well.&nbsp; They tend to shoot midrange jumpers more than most other teams in conference.&nbsp; They play at a very slow tempo and take great care of the ball.&nbsp; I feel like whichever team is more &quot;locked in&quot; for this one will walk away with the win.&nbsp; Indiana is in the typical &quot;must win&quot; spot for bubble teams this time of year.&nbsp; That typically doesn&#39;t fare well for the bubble teams though, as they are clearly on the bubble for a reason.&nbsp; Just ask SMU earlier today, or Loyola Chicago, Rutgers, Oregon and&nbsp;Miami yesterday how their &quot;must win&quot; bubble games went (answer: not well).&nbsp; So fading Indiana as a bubble team in a must win game is one motivating factor, and the other is Senior Day.&nbsp; Minnesota is a senior-laden team with six seniors in the rotation, highlighted by four-year Minnesota senior big man Eric Curry.&nbsp; Curry has a tough assignment today facing off against TJD, but I completely expect max effort in his last&nbsp;game ever at The Barn.

Ohio State ranges from 12 to 13 point favorites at home in Tuesday night&#39;s Big Ten matchup with Minnesota.&nbsp; Chris Holtmann is 4-3 against Minnesota as head coach in Columbus, while first year head coach Ben Johnson is 0-1 against Ohio State.&nbsp; The Buckeyes won that game in The Barn by 11, though both teams were missing a key player with Eric Curry and Jamari Wheeler both missing at the time.&nbsp; In conference play, Johnson&#39;s Gophers have only one road win, and their five road losses came by an average of 9.2 points.

Both teams are coming off important wins, with Ohio State handling Michigan in Ann Arbor and Minnesota breaking a 6-game losing streak with a home win over Penn State.&nbsp; While the spread may seem large&nbsp;at first glance, there are unique matchups here that lead me to back the home favorite in what should be a big home win.

Ohio State&#39;s defense is ranked 48th in the country in mid-range field goal percentage, allowing opponents to make only 34.8% of their attempts from the mid-range, per <a href="https://haslametrics.com/ratings2.php?yr=&amp;tid=411">Haslametrics</a>.&nbsp; This defensive strength matches up perfectly against Minnesota, who is top 75 in the nation for mid-range field goal attempts.&nbsp; About a third of Minnesota&#39;s shots come&nbsp;between the three point line and the paint.&nbsp; When they miss, they will struggle to grab offensive rebounds as well.&nbsp; Ohio State does a good job defensively of limiting opponent offensive rebounds and second chance points.&nbsp; That tells me Minnesota will have a lot of one and done possessions with missed mid-range jumpshots tonight.

If Ohio State can score well tonight they will have a good chance to run away with the win.&nbsp; On the offensive end, EJ Liddell is their go-to scorer.&nbsp; Liddell is scoring 20+ points in four of his last five games with an average of eight rebounds per game in that stretch.&nbsp; Minnesota is currently bottom two in the Big Ten in both 3pt and 2pt percentage defense, so the Buckeyes should be able to score with relatively little resistance.

Juwan Howard is 2-2 against Tom Izzo, with the home team protecting home court and winning each game.&nbsp; Perhaps it&#39;s the nature of this rivalry, or perhaps it&#39;s just coincidence, but the majority of these matchups end in wide margins.&nbsp; The last time this game ended in a one possession result was back in 2013.&nbsp; If the trend continues, I expect Michigan State to either win and cover the spread&nbsp;(MSU -3)&nbsp;or Michigan to win straight up (Michigan moneyline).

<h3>Matchup</h3>

Michigan looks to have finally found their stride with&nbsp;three straight Big Ten wins.&nbsp; 6&#39;8&quot; freshman wing Caleb Houston is finally looking like the 5-star recruit that he was, shooting 11 of 16 from deep during the winning streak. I think the Spartans have the personnel to guard Houston though.&nbsp; 6&#39;8&quot; senior Gabe Brown has the length and agility to close out on opposing perimeter shooters, and 6&#39;6&quot; freshman Max Christie has been impressive on the defensive front as well.

The most logical path for a Michigan upset win is 7&#39;1&quot; big man Hunter Dickinson having a Big Ten Player of the Year type of performance.&nbsp; He is getting hot recently, averaging 20 points per game across his last four contests, scoring 17 ppg over his past 10 games.&nbsp; In his two games against Michigan State last season, Dickinson scored 12 and 14 points, while shooting nearly 10% below his 2pt percentage and doubling his turnover average.&nbsp; In other words, Dickinson was simply mediocre going against MSU&#39;s big men Marcus Bingham and Julius Marble.&nbsp; If Dickinson doesn&#39;t have his best game, I think Michigan will struggle to find ways to win this one.

<h2>UCF vs Houston College Basketball Preview And Betting Prediction</h2>

Central Florida hosts Houston&nbsp;in what will be the toughest conference game to date for both teams.&nbsp; Houston currently sits atop the American Athletic Conference standings at 6-0, while UCF has had some early miscues and sits at 4-4.&nbsp; Coaches Johnny Dawkins and Kelvin Sampson are no strangers to eachother&#39;s programs, and Sampson&#39;s Houston teams are 7-2 in the machup over the past five seasons.

On the surface it seems like Sampson&#39;s dominance over Dawkins should continue Saturday night, but there are a couple reasons I think UCF can compete for a chance to win.

<h3>Houston&nbsp;</h3>

The Cougars are still dominating the glass, and they also dominate the paint both offensively and defensively.&nbsp; In fact, they rank first in all three of those categories in the AAC, per <a href="https://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Houston">kenpom</a>.&nbsp; Houston hasn&#39;t skipped a beat even with significant injuries either.&nbsp; While Houston has yet to lose a game without their injured stars Marcus Sasser and Tramon Mark, I think some negative regression is bound to catch up to them.

<h3>UCF</h3>

The Knights have had some truly questionable performances on the road this season, but they&#39;ve been very good at home.&nbsp; They have home wins over Michigan and Memphis, and a close loss to Oklahoma.&nbsp; If this game was in Houston, I&#39;d say a blowout Houston win would be&nbsp;feasible.&nbsp; However, this game is in Orlando, and I expect UCF to give maximum effort.

<h3>Matchup</h3>

Houston is a very talented team with pieces remaining from a Final Four run last season.&nbsp; They have the potential to run the table in the AAC, but if they are to faulter and lose a game, this would be one of just a few key spots I could see it happening (the others being at SMU, at Wichita State, or the last game of the season at Memphis).

<h2>St. Bonaventure vs VCU College Basketball Preview And Betting Prediction</h2>

St. Bonnies hosts&nbsp;VCU in the&nbsp;best college basketball game of the night, and one of the sides is my best bet of the night.

Coming into the season, the Atlantic 10 looked like it was St. Bonaventure&rsquo;s to lose.&nbsp; They returned 4 starters for their senior seasons, coming off a first round exit in the NCAA Tournament.&nbsp; Saint Louis lost three senior starters.&nbsp; Davidson lost Kellan Grady to Kentucky.&nbsp; &nbsp;VCU had to forfeit its NCAA Tournament game and then lost Bones Hyland to the NBA.

Now in mid-January, Davidson and VCU sit atop the A10 standings at 3-0.&nbsp; Dayton is 2-1 but has impressive wins over Kansas, Miami and Virginia Tech.&nbsp; The Bonnies are 1-0 and have to play catch up to get back onto their preseason throne&hellip; but can they?

<h3>VCU&nbsp;</h3>

Coach Mike Rhoades has an elite defensive team for the fourth season in a row.&nbsp; VCU is forcing the third most turnovers in the country this season, and allowing the second lowest effective field goal percentage against, per <a href="https://kenpom.com/team.php?team=VCU">kenpom</a>.&nbsp; The offense definitely started slow this season though.&nbsp; It wasn&rsquo;t until VCU&rsquo;s tenth game of the season that they hit the 70 mark in the scoring column.&nbsp; However, that was only the second game for VCU&rsquo;s sophomore point guard Adrian Baldwin who missed the start of the season.&nbsp; The Rams have gone 6-0 since Baldwin&rsquo;s return.&nbsp; Since conference play started VCU is 3-0 in the A10 and shooting 40% from three.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h3>St. Bonaventure</h3>

Coach Mark Schmidt has one of his best teams, as the Bonnies enjoyed top 25 rankings in the AP Poll earlier in the season.&nbsp; Schmidt has five starting seniors - but that&rsquo;s it.&nbsp; The Bonnies are coming off an overtime road trip to Philly on Tuesday where three starters played all 45 minutes, and the other two starters played 44 and 43 minutes.&nbsp; Yikes.&nbsp; Prior to the La Salle game, Bonnies were on a three and a half week covid pause, so you could certainly question if they are in mid-season condition.

<h3>Matchup</h3>

With essentially zero depth and potentially tired legs, St. Bonaventure could struggle against a frustrating pressure defense.&nbsp; VCU routinely plays 9+&nbsp;deep, and has shown they can win on the road.&nbsp; As they say&hellip; defense travels.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>Baylor at&nbsp;Oregon</h2>

#1 Baylor (9-0) laying only 8 points against Oregon (6-5). This same Oregon Ducks team essentially lost by 30 to both BYU and Houston. Ducks also lost to Arizona State and Stanford - both teams that lost to Baylor by double digits. So Baylor -8 seems like a no-brainer here, right? Maybe not... 
 
Ranked teams on the road - especially on Saturdays - is always the most dangerous spot in a college basketball schedule. Baylor is undefeated and the top ranked team in the nation. The pressure of the number 1 ranking has not been so comforting this season though. Duke lost on the road at Ohio State just a day after receiving the top spot, and then Purdue fell to Rutgers on the road just a few days after receiving their first #1 AP ranking in school history. <h2>Team Performances</h2>

 
Baylor is coming off a wacky 57-36 home win where neither team could shoot the ball - Baylor went 6 of 24 and Villanova 6 of 27 from downtown. After a week of final exams they&rsquo;ll head out to play an Oregon team that will have the home court advantage and will be desperate for a big win. Similar to a 5-4 talented but disappointing Memphis team taking down 8-1 Alabama at home earlier this week, I think the &lsquo;back against the wall&rsquo; and buy-low spot fits with Oregon as well. 
 
For as much preseason hype Oregon had, this season has pretty much been a train wreck. Sitting at 5-5 with essentially no good wins, Dana Altman is taking the typical slow start to another level. As always, Altman hit the transfer market hard and has a handful of newcomers this season.&nbsp; In my <a href="https://betkarma.com/article/1011/doms-cbb-preseason-top-25-10-18-21">Preseason Top 25</a>&nbsp;I actually ranked Oregon #17 and Baylor #21.&nbsp; Both teams have moved in opposite directions since then, but I do believe these two teams&#39; potential are much closer to eachother than their records and results have shown so far.

Oregon has the talent and size, but hasn&rsquo;t been able to put it together yet this season. What better time than when the number one team visits your (hideous) home court. The Ducks used a midweek tune-up vs Portland to gain a little confidence and try to get back on track before the weekend. Now they&rsquo;re getting 3 possessions at home in the absolute best opportunity they&rsquo;ll get to right the ship, and that sounds good to me.&nbsp;

Maryland leaves their home court for the first time this season as they travel down to the Bahamas to play Richmond on Thanksgiving day. The shooting disparity between these teams sticks out to me, and it really favors the Spiders. Richmond has hit 41% of their threes on the season - the 25th best rate in the country - while Maryland&rsquo;s opponents have also been able to make plenty of threes so far. Conversely, the Terps have hit just 25% from deep, as Eric Ayala keeps forcing them without success. I can&rsquo;t imagine leaving the familiarity of their home court is going to help those jump shots to fall.&nbsp;

While Richmond and Maryland haven&rsquo;t played each other in five years, Richmond is no stranger to Maryland&rsquo;s point guard, Fatts Russell. Before transferring out of Rhode Island, Russell played Richmond annually for four seasons and went 2-2. However, Richmond won the last two matchups with Rhode Island and held Russell to under 30% from the floor, including 0/7 from three. Richmond&rsquo;s point guard Jacob Gilyard has hit 50% of his threes (12/24) in those matchups against Russell.&nbsp;

I have legitimate concerns for Richmond&rsquo;s ability to defend the pick and roll, but I think Richmond&rsquo;s group of super seniors will be the superior shooters and ultimately make enough shots to come away with the resume win they&rsquo;re seeking.&nbsp;

Purdue is scoring nearly 95 points per game through its first three games, albeit against lesser opposition than North Carolina. Hubert Davis&rsquo;s Tar Heels defense is letting up a surprisingly high 79 points per game against an even weaker start to their schedule. If North Carolina keeps their pace of play up and maintains a similar defensive effort to what we&rsquo;ve seen, Purdue should score 85+ and maybe even flirt with triple digits.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

On the offensive side, Davis seems to be maintaining Roy Williams&rsquo; offensive philosophy of running the floor, getting offensive rebounds for easy second chance points, and getting to the free throw line for easy points. I have a feeling the best rebounding duo in the nation - 7&rsquo;4 Zach Edey and 6&rsquo;10&rdquo; senior Trevion Williams - will pose quite a challenge to North Carolina on the glass. And while it&rsquo;s not quite Michigan-level defending without fouling, Matt Painter&rsquo;s Purdue squads always tend to do a good job of preventing their opponents from getting too many freebies at the charity stripe.&nbsp;

I really like the Seminoles this season, enough to make&nbsp;Florida State my pick to win the <a href="https://betkarma.com/article/974/acc-basketball-betting-preview">ACC regular season championship</a>. This year&#39;s squad pairs&nbsp;Anthony Polite,&nbsp;who is ready to break out in his senior season, with&nbsp;last year&#39;s AAC preseason player of the year Caleb Mills.&nbsp;&nbsp;The team overall&nbsp;follows the Leonard Hamilton blue print: lengthy, athletic defenders that try to force opposing teams into isolation offense, with some talented young freshmen and 7-foot trees to plant in the paint. 
&nbsp;

It&#39;s this defensive recipe that makes me love Florida State in the annual matchup with Florida. Year in, year out, Florida State forces turnovers and gains extra possessions by dominating the offensive glass. &nbsp;Those&nbsp;are two weaknesses Mike White&#39;s Gators typically struggle with. Last season Florida ranked&nbsp;290th in turnovers&nbsp;and 275th in opponent offensive rebound rate, per kenpom. If the Gators continue to reflect anywhere near those levels, the &#39;Noles should have a field day.

&nbsp;

Simply put, Leonard Hamilton owns Mike White. Hamilton&#39;s Florida State teams have beaten Florida in 7 straight games. I have no reason to believe that trend will change this weekend.&nbsp;

<h3>Gonzaga</h3>

Drew&nbsp;Timme&nbsp;and his famed mustache celebration returns to Spokane, Washington for his Junior season. 7&rsquo;1&rdquo; Chet Holmgren, the top freshman recruit in the nation, will pair his defensive dominance with&nbsp;Timme&rsquo;s&nbsp;elite scoring to form the best front court in the country. Senior Andrew Nembhard returns at point guard and a pair of 5-star freshmen guards brings an influx of talent to a deep Zags roster. Coach Mark Few loaded up the non-conference schedule once again, so the Zags will have a great chance to lock in another 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<h3>Kansas</h3>

Bill Self returns most of last year&rsquo;s team except for Marcus Garrett. While Garrett&rsquo;s defense will be missed, the Jayhawks get a major upgrade on offense via the transfer portal. Arizona State&rsquo;s Remy Martin and Drake&rsquo;s Joseph&nbsp;Yusefu&nbsp;are the type of ball dominant, scoring guards Kansas is used to having. If they can resemble the likes of past guards Devin Dotson, Frank Mason or Devonte Graham, Kansas can expect to regain their dominance of the Big 12.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<h3>Kentucky</h3>

John Calipari has recruited the best freshmen class many times. This year he brings in the best &ldquo;transfer class&rdquo; with&nbsp;Sahvir&nbsp;Wheeler, Kellan&nbsp;Grady&nbsp;and Oscar&nbsp;Tshiebwe&nbsp;likely to start, along with Iowa sharpshooter CJ Fredrick coming off the bench. This team is as talented or more than Coach Cal is used to, with way more experience than Kentucky ever seems to&nbsp;have.

&nbsp;

<h3>Purdue</h3>

Purdue is <a href="https://betkarma.com/article/945/big-ten-basketball-betting-preview">my pick to win the Big Ten this season</a>. They return all but Aaron Wheeler from last year&rsquo;s young team. I expect breakout seasons from Jaden Ivey and Zach&nbsp;Edey after brilliant&nbsp;summer&nbsp;showings&nbsp;in the FIBA U19 World Cup.

&nbsp;

<h3>Texas</h3>

Speaking of transfers, Chris Beard&rsquo;s first season in Austin starts off with SEVEN transfers on the roster.&nbsp;If anyone can make that work, it&rsquo;s Beard.&nbsp;Minnesota&rsquo;s Marcus Carr joins Courtney Ramey and Andrew Jones to form arguably the best backcourt in the country.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<h3>Michigan</h3>

Juwan Howard brings in the top freshman class in the nation. Big man Hunter Dickinson and&nbsp;guard&nbsp;Eli Brooks return from an impressive season. Michigan once again will rely on an up-transfer at point guard - it worked out great last season with Mike Smith. This year,&nbsp;DeVante Jones brings his nearly 20 points per game from Coastal Carolina as he jumps into the big league.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<h3>Alabama</h3>

Nate Oats is one of my favorite coaches in college basketball.&nbsp;He&rsquo;ll continue the analytically-driven offense that shuns mid-range jumpers and focuses on the most efficient shots in the game &ndash; from behind the three-point line or directly under the bucket. &nbsp;He loses a lot of talent from last year&rsquo;s team, but &lsquo;Bama returns two double digit scorers and welcomes a couple top freshmen and a key transfer.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<h3>Illinois</h3>

It will be tough to replace Ayo&nbsp;Dosunmu&rsquo;s&nbsp;clutchness, but Illinois returns the beast of a human Kofi Cockburn along with super senior Trent Frazier and breakout-ready Andre Curbelo.&nbsp;Coach Brad Underwood says Utah transfer&nbsp;Alfonso Plummer&nbsp;is the best shooter he&rsquo;s ever coached. &nbsp;Jacob Grandison and&nbsp;Da&#39;Monte&nbsp;Williams&nbsp;were hyper efficient shooters on low volume last season. &nbsp;They&rsquo;ll have to take on bigger roles to help fill the void of Dosunmu,&nbsp;Giorgi&nbsp;Bezhanishvili&nbsp;and Adam Miller freeing up roughly thirty points per game.

&nbsp;

<h3>Villanova</h3>

With Jay Wright coaching and Collin Gillespie running the point, you can yet again put Villanova winning the Big East down in pen, not pencil.&nbsp;However, replacing JRE is&nbsp;nearly an impossible task (Jay Wright even said he&rsquo;s worried about it) and&nbsp;off-season injuries have already created depth issues that may cap &lsquo;Nova&rsquo;s ceiling.

&nbsp;

<h3>UCLA</h3>

UCLA was an above average bubble team last year that lacked a true &lsquo;big win&rsquo; until their magical Final Four run. Nevertheless, Mick Cronin is a winning coach and returns a very talented, experienced team.&nbsp;Ranking the Bruins 10th may be a spicy take because most pundits have them top three. &nbsp;However, it&rsquo;s one Michigan State basket away from being a spicy take for being too high, as most would have UCLA unranked.

College basketball tips off exactly four weeks from today with the Champions Classic headliner event featuring Kansas vs Michigan State and Duke vs Kentucky. There will be plenty of betting opportunities on those games in due time, but for now I want to dig deep into the mid majors. In America&rsquo;s heartland is the Ohio Valley Conference&hellip; and I&rsquo;ll bet I know who&rsquo;s going to win it this season!

Last season, Belmont won the OVC regular season title and Morehead State won the conference tournament. Belmont has won the regular season championship seven out of the past ten years, with the three letdown seasons being won by Murray State teams with future NBA point guards (Ja Morant, Cameron Payne &amp; Isaiah Canaan).

&nbsp;

Rick Byrd coached Belmont teams for over thirty years, dominating the OVC and the ASUN before that. And I mean dominating. Belmont looks to grow its streak of 16 straight seasons of 19 or more wins. With Byrd&rsquo;s retirement, in came Belmont legend Casey Alexander fresh off an ASUN championship across town at Lipscomb. Belmont hasn&rsquo;t skipped a beat with Alexander, winning the OVC regular season in his first two seasons as head coach.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

In his third season now, Alexander returns his entire rotation, including the electric one-two punch of Grayson Murphy and Nick Muszynski entering their senior seasons. Belmont boasts the conference&rsquo;s best offense by a mile. In fact, Belmont had the third highest two-point percentage in the entire country last season. Belmont has talent, experience, chemistry, and leadership. I expect their dominance to continue, and lead to a fourth straight conference title for this senior class.&nbsp; Not only will these seniors go out with a bang,&nbsp;&nbsp;but the Bruins&nbsp;look&nbsp;to go out with a bang in the OVC as Belmont prepares to join the Missouri Valley Conference in the 2022-23 season.

&nbsp;

Belmont&rsquo;s main competition is Morehead State (+300 odds). Morehead State had the best defense in the league last season, and they return the league&#39;s freshman of the year Johni Broome - a 6&#39;10&quot; old school big man. MSU won two of three games with Belmont, though Belmont was missing its star big man Muszynski in one of them. Morehead State would be my second favorite bet to win the OVC, but I just can&rsquo;t see them winning it, especially without sharing the title (with Belmont).

&nbsp;

Murray State actually has the second best odds (+225), but without an NBA-level point guard leading this team I don&rsquo;t see them making the jump from a 10-10 conference record last season.

Duke and North Carolina have dominated the ACC for over sixty years. More recently, Virginia entered the mix, with five conference champion banners from the past eight years alone. So, it is no surprise those three are the favorites to be crowned conference champion.&nbsp; Here is a look at the conference champion odds for the top half of the league.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Outside of the top three ACC schools of the past decade, Florida State has also made their presence known. The Seminoles claim the conference crown from 2020. They also finished with the second or third best conference record six different times since 2010.

&nbsp;

Coach Leonard Hamilton always has athletic, lengthy, deep teams. The 2021-22 season will look no different. 6&rsquo;6&rdquo; Anthony Polite (44% from 3), 6&rsquo;9&rdquo; Malik Osborne (37%) and 6&rsquo;8&rdquo; Wyatt Wilkes (38%) all return and welcome 6&rsquo;3&rdquo; Houston transfer Caleb Mills (37%) to form a lethal perimeter offense. Down low, a rotation of three 7-footers will continue the annual block party on defense. A pair of 5-star recruits, Jalen Warley and Matthew Cleveland, join the starting lineup. Warley is described as a heady point guard ready to take the reigns of Hamilton&rsquo;s offense, while Cleveland has received rave reviews for his freak athleticism and elite finishing ability.

&nbsp;

From an unbalanced schedule perspective, Florida State has a favorable path. The &lsquo;Noles only play North Carolina and Virginia once each, although both on the road, but they play Virginia Tech and Louisville only once each at home. FSU will see the other top six teams a total of eight times. Compare that to Duke (10), UNC (9), UVA (9), VT (8), Louisville (8) and Syracuse (8).&nbsp; At&nbsp;+650 odds, Florida State is my favorite bet to win the ACC regular season championship!

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has the most wins in men&rsquo;s D1 college basketball history. Coach K&rsquo;s farewell tour starts now and going out with an ACC Championship sure would be a nice little cherry on top of his Hall of Fame career. For whatever reason, recently Coach K seems to find his championship success in tournament settings though. Duke&rsquo;s last regular season conference championship came in 2010 &ndash; but they have won five ACC Tournament titles since then. Duke forward Paolo Banchero could end up being the best freshman in the country, and there are some very talented pieces around him. With all that said, I have some concerns around Duke&rsquo;s shooting ability, and ultimately I am not interested in a season-long bet with only 2:1 odds.

North Carolina could very likely win the ACC conference. Hubert Davis is stepping in for retired Roy Williams and he has a loaded front court typical of the Tarheels. If point guard Caleb Love makes a big jump in year two, the Tarheels likely win the ACC. However, if Love remains in the neighborhood of his 32% field goal percentage and 27% three-point percentage, winning the regular season will be a tall task.

Virginia loses their three best players, and I just don&rsquo;t like a team led by Kihei Clark. Virginia Tech and Syracuse can both be really good, but they aren&rsquo;t reliable enough for me to bet on across the entire conference schedule. Louisville has a nice combination of returning talent and incoming up-transfers which will be interesting to see how they all fit together.

With just eight weeks until college basketball tips off, it&rsquo;s not too early to start looking ahead and placing futures bets! Check back in for more conference previews, futures bets, and preseason CBB Top 25 rankings in the coming weeks.

As a Michigan State alumni, I have always paid close attention to the Big Ten. So, it&rsquo;s not a surprise that over the past decade I have tracked better results betting Big Ten basketball than any other conference. It is such a unique conference that has produced an impressive amount of Final Four teams but only one National Championship since 2000. According to KenPom, Big Ten was the best conference in the sport the past two seasons. It is a very physical conference, led over the years by Hall of Fame coaches, elite point guards, and more recently dominant big men. I took all those factors into account before placing a futures bet on which team will win the 2021-22 Big Ten regular season championship.

Pair that with the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year favorite in Hunter Dickinson, and this team will undoubtedly be very good. My main concern is with losing the top three shooters from last year&rsquo;s Elite Eight squad. The departing trio of Isaiah Livers, Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown led the team in three point shooting, and Franz Wagner&rsquo;s defensive efforts materialized into an NBA lottery pick. There are a ton of minutes to replace, and a large portion will be filled by freshmen. I actually prefer Michigan&rsquo;s National Championship odds (+1200 on <a href="https://www.williamhill.com/us/nj/welcome?AR=a-872b-134&amp;bc=KARMARF&amp;utm_offer=KARMARF&amp;siteid=872&amp;af_c_id=KARMARF">Caesars Sportsbook</a>) or their eventual Big Ten Tournament odds as opposed to their Big Ten season championship odds, since young teams often reach their peaks in March.

Purdue is my pick to win the regular season Big Ten Championship. There are a handful of things I look at when analyzing if a team can win the Big Ten, and the Boilermakers check all the boxes.

Believe it or not, Purdue didn&rsquo;t have a single senior on the roster last season! Aaron Wheeler transferred to St. John&rsquo;s, but the rest of the team returns. They add a pair of top 75 recruits, the top two high schoolers out of Indiana, so this team is very deep now.

 
Back Court

It seems like everyone, myself included, expects a monster breakout season for 6&rsquo;4&rdquo; Sophomore guard Jaden Ivy after making headline performances in Team USA&rsquo;s run to the FIBA U19 gold medal this summer. Point guard Eric Hunter and sharpshooter Sasha Stefanovic return to keep the chemistry intact.

 
Big Man

In Purdue&rsquo;s case, it&rsquo;s big men. Senior leader Trevion Williams has a real chance to be the conference Player of the Year with the way he runs the offense through the post and dominates the glass. 7&rsquo;4&rdquo; Zach Edey showed flashes in his freshman season and looks to make a big jump in year two. Like Ivey, Edey also impressed this summer in the FIBA U19 World Cup, averaging 15 &amp; 14 and helping Canada finish third.

 
Home Court

A packed Mackey Arena with 15,000 roaring fans and a deafening student section is one of the toughest places to play in the Big Ten. You can count on two hands how many times Purdue has lost at home in conference play the past seven seasons. To win a conference championship you can&rsquo;t be losing home games, and I think Purdue can run the table at home this season.

<h3>Ohio State&nbsp;+600</h3>

The return of stretch center EJ Liddell keeps the Buckeyes near the top of the list for Big Ten preseason rankings.&nbsp; However, losing Duane Washington and CJ Walker breaks up the core from last year&#39;s back court.&nbsp; I feel bad for Seth Towns, the injury prone sixth-year big man, who had offseason back surgery and is once again unlikely to return any earlier than the end of the calendar year.&nbsp; Add in recent reports&nbsp;of a lower leg injury to Meechie Johnson, and this Ohio State team has too many&nbsp;question marks for me to believe they can win the Big Ten.

<h3>Illinois&nbsp;+700</h3>

Kofi Cockburn is one of the most dominant physical presences in all of college basketball.&nbsp; After flirting with the NBA Draft and potentially transferring to Kentucky, Cockburn&#39;s return to Illinois grabbed plenty of offseason headlines.&nbsp; However, the return of Trent Frazier and Andre Curbelo may be even more significant.&nbsp; A very good returning back court and a dominant center are the typical ingredients needed&nbsp;to win the Big Ten. While Michigan technically won the Big Ten in an odd COVID year, Illinois finished with the most wins in conference play last season, so the&nbsp;+700 odds are attractive.&nbsp; There&#39;s just that massive void that Ayo Dosunmu&#39;s departure leaves that has me questioning the Illini.&nbsp; Dosunmu really had that &#39;it factor&#39;, and he was one of the best finishers in the sport.&nbsp; Who will step up to take on that much-needed role this season?

<h3>Michigan State&nbsp;+900</h3>

Tom Izzo has led the Spartans to 10 regular season Big Ten Championships, including three straight in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Some may consider this season a &lsquo;rebuild&rsquo; after finishing with a losing conference record and then seeing nearly half their team leave via transfer, graduation, or NBA. I have faith in the incoming freshmen Max Christie, Pierre Brooks and Jaden Akins &ndash; the most promising looking freshmen class in the past five years. With the influx of talent, reports of great training camps, and a rocking Izzone student section at the Breslin Center, MSU will be back in the mix again. While I don&rsquo;t think they have enough to win the regular season title, I predict the Spartans will finish third in the Big Ten standings.

<h2>First Weekend Recap</h2>

What an opening weekend of the tournament! It was truly everything we&rsquo;ve been waiting for after missing out on March Madness last year. At BetKarma, my premium bets were on FIRE, going&nbsp;24-12 for +14 units&nbsp;in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Every bet was shared &amp; discussed with the entire <a href="https://www.betkarma.com/premium/cbb">BetKarma CBB Premium group</a>.

<h2>Futures Recap</h2>

Futures are alive and well, as I have teams in three regions with live futures still going. In the West, the overwhelming favorite Gonzaga looks to cash my 19.7 units with a national championship, not to mention my stake in the Zags in a sizable Calcutta Auction.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;

In the South, I have a Final Four future with Arkansas to win 10 units, and may be looking to hedge out a bit if they meet Baylor in the Elite Eight. I also hold a Villanova national championship ticket to win 7 units, although I admit I&rsquo;ve lost hope on that one with the loss of their injured senior leader and point guard Collin Gillespie.&nbsp;

Moving over to the South, I&rsquo;m holding Houston futures for National Champ to win 15.25 units and Final Four to win 5 units. My prized possession has to be my Final Four future on Loyola Chicago, to win 44 units. If favorites hold serve in the Sweet 16, I should be in great position to cash in on several profitable futures, way more than offsetting my total of 7 units invested in Championship &amp; Final Four futures.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>Sweet 16 Bets</h2>

Moving on to this weekend&rsquo;s bets, there are a few spreads I absolutely LOVE in the Sweet 16 matchups.&nbsp;

Arkansas vs Oral Roberts

When: 7:25 pm EST Saturday

Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse - TV: TBS

This spread is interesting since Arkansas beat Oral Roberts by 11 back in late December. Oral Roberts actually held a ten point lead midway through this game, before Arkansas put the clamps down and cleaned up the glass. The Razorbacks out rebounded the Golden Eagles by 26 boards. They held the nation&rsquo;s leading scorer, Max Abmas, to 11 points and 1/6 from three. Obanor put up 21, but in general Oral Roberts struggled to score efficiently against the athletic Razorback defense.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;

Both of these teams want to get out and run. Oral Roberts wants to take a lot of threes, and I think if they hit them early this will be a game, but if the miss them early on they could fall behind and struggle to get back in it. I think the familiarity of these teams having played a couple months ago helps Arkansas in a sense that ORU won&rsquo;t be sneaking up on them. Musselman knows they trailed by double digits to this team, but they also know they can shut Abmas down. Shut him down again and the hogs will run away with this one.&nbsp;

Houston vs Syracuse&nbsp;

When: 9:55 pm EST Saturday

Where: Hinkle Fieldhouse - TV: TBS

Buddy Boeheim has probably been the best player in the tournament so far. But that doesn&rsquo;t really matter to me in this game. I think Houston has the lengthy, athletic guards to get out and run Buddy off the three point line. However, Buddy can go 6/12 from deep and Syracuse can still lose by double digits here. 
&nbsp;

The biggest matchup edge in this game is rebounding. Syracuse defense is allowing opponents to grab over 34% of their misses - that is bottom ten in the nation bad. On the flip side, Houston is the second best offensive rebounding (ORB) team in the country, grabbing nearly 40% of their misses. When this Syracuse team has gone up against opponents that dominate the offensive glass, it hasn&rsquo;t turned out great for the Cuse. Syracuse split with North Carolina (1st ORB) this season, losing by six in Chapel Hill and winning by two at home. North Carolina doesn&rsquo;t have nearly the shooting Houston has though. Syracuse fell behind by 15 to Buffalo (5th ORB) before a late comeback win in overtime. Cuse did beat West Virginia (9th ORB), but got swept by Pitt (22nd ORB) including a 20 point blowout, and lost to Duke (46th ORB) by double digits. 
&nbsp;

Kelvin Sampson gets a week to prepare his guys for the patented Boeheim 2-3 zone. Houston may have struggled against the zone in late December in a loss to Tulsa, but they came back prepared and beat Tulsa by 27 in late January. You can also throw in a pair of 20+ point wins against Ron Hunter&rsquo;s zone defense at Tulane.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;

When you add in the fact that Houston has the #1 effective field goal percentage defense, this is an edge I really give to Houston.&nbsp;

USC vs Oregon

When: 9:45 pm EST Sunday

Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse - TV: TBS

A lot of people are going to look to USC dominating Oregon a month ago as a predictor for what will happen here. It&rsquo;s important to note why Oregon got blown out, and see if we think those reasons will repeat.&nbsp;&nbsp;Oregon entered their fifth game in eleven days at USC and the tired legs showed as this jump shooting team started really slow, falling behind 17-1. USC made their first five three pointers and got up by 20. The rest of the game was rather even, with Oregon even cutting it to ten with five minutes to go in the game. Tahj Eaddy made 6/11 from deep, a season high, and he has cooled off since.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;

The circumstances of that matchup were unique and I don&rsquo;t see Oregon getting blown out the same way again. Oregon won&rsquo;t be shocked by the size and length of the Mobley brothers&rsquo; interior defense the way many of the Trojans&rsquo; first time opponents are. Dana Altman has led the Ducks to a 10-5 record vs Andy Enfield and USC. I think Oregon is a very live dog, but I&rsquo;ll take the points here.&nbsp;

<h2>Conference Futures</h2>

With the &quot;Power Six&quot;&nbsp;major&nbsp;conference tournaments starting this week, I&#39;m going to give my pick to win&nbsp;and one sleeper team in each.&nbsp; My rankings saw some massive movement&nbsp;from last week, and I&#39;m reflecting who I believe the best 25 teams in the country are right now.&nbsp;For example, Villanova dropped from #10 to #24 after a win over Creighton and a loss at Providence.&nbsp;The real loss occurred at the point guard position though. Senior leader Collin Gillespie suffered a torn MCL and will miss the remainder of the season.&nbsp; The injuries compounded when Nova&#39;s other point guard Justin Moore sprained his ankle.&nbsp;At this point, Villanova is no longer a Final Four contender, and no longer the favorite to win the Big East Tournament.&nbsp;Which brings me to my first conference tournament pick... 
&nbsp;

Big East 
My Pick: UConn (+300)&nbsp; 
With James Bouknight in the lineup, UConn is 10-2 with close losses to Creighton in OT and at Villanova.&nbsp;Bouknight is fully healthy now and UConn is playing like a top 15 team in the country. 
Sleeper: St. John&#39;s (+2000) 
&nbsp;

Big Ten 
My Pick: Illinois (+375)&nbsp; 
Illinois won the most games in Big Ten conference play, yet they don&#39;t get to hang a Big Ten Championship banner.&nbsp;Michigan played fewer games but has the edge in win percentage, so they get that title.&nbsp;I expect Illinois to have a chip on their shoulder and bulldoze their way to the tournament championship, where maybe they&#39;ll meet Michigan and attempt to beat them again - this time with Ayo Dosunmu&nbsp;in the lineup. 
Sleeper: Ohio State (+685) 
&nbsp;

Big 12 
My Pick: Baylor (-134)&nbsp; 
Baylor is simply the best team in the conference by a decent margin.&nbsp;The path&nbsp;isn&#39;t easy, with a second game matchup against Oklahoma State or West Virginia, but I have to go with the most complete team here. 
Sleeper: Kansas (+325) 
&nbsp;

Pac-12 
My Pick: Oregon&nbsp;(+175)&nbsp; 
Again I have to go with&nbsp;the best team in the conference by a wide margin.&nbsp;I expect the Ducks&nbsp;to make the title game rather easily, then likely beat USC or Colorado. 
Sleeper: Colorado (+300) 
&nbsp;

ACC 
My Pick: North Carolina&nbsp;(+425)&nbsp; 
UNC has the size to match up well with Florida State, so I think they can get to the finals.&nbsp;Winning four games in four days will be tough, but with a super weak ACC field this year, why not rely on ol&#39;&nbsp;Roy to win the ACC Tournament for his sixth time? 
Sleeper: Georgia Tech (+2000) 
&nbsp;

SEC 
My Pick: Alabama (+220)&nbsp; 
I think Alabama has the easier side of the bracket, avoiding talented teams like Arkansas or LSU until the finals.&nbsp;If they hit their threes, Alabama is&nbsp;nearly an unstoppable force.

<h2>Bracket Trend Talk</h2>

March is here so we have to talk brackets.&nbsp;Everyone wants to win their bracket, so I&#39;m going to tell you how to fill out a winning one. There are several general trends that hold true every year, and if you keep them in mind it will help you fill out a winning bracket yet again. 
&nbsp;

Balanced Offense &amp; Defense 
Since 2000, every NCAA Tournament Champion had a top-40 efficiency rating (per KenPom) in both offense &amp; defense.&nbsp;In fact, all but one champion team was actually in the top 20 in both offense &amp; defense.&nbsp;The teams this season that fit those metrics are: Gonzaga, Michigan, Baylor, Illinois, Houston.&nbsp;That&#39;s it - that&#39;s the list.&nbsp; Knowing that, it should be&nbsp;no surprise that those just so happen to be my top 5 teams in this week&#39;s rankings.&nbsp;So if you had to fill out a bracket today, you better not have a team outside of these five winning it all. 
&nbsp;

Mid-Season Losing Streaks 
Keeping the trends within this century,&nbsp;very few teams have won it all during a season in which they had a three game losing streak.&nbsp; Some notable tournament teams with three game skids this season include: Ohio State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Texas, Virginia, Duke, Clemson, Missouri.&nbsp;To take it a step further, no team with a four game losing streak has&nbsp;even made the Final Four in the same season.&nbsp; Interestingly, three potential&nbsp;tournament teams from the same conference have had four game rough patches: Rutgers, Minnesota, Michigan State.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;

Star Players &amp; Great Guard Play 
Many&nbsp;surprise deep runs in March have been fueled by an excellent lead guard.&nbsp;Trey Burke led a talented&nbsp;but underseeded 4-seed Michigan squad to the finals in 2013.&nbsp;In 2015, Michigan State had no business in the Final Four, but they made it as an underwhelming 7-seed behind stellar point guard play in the tournament&nbsp;by Travis Trice.&nbsp;In 2016, Malachi Richardson and Michael Gbinije led&nbsp;a 10-seed Syracuse team to the Final Four.&nbsp;Clayton Custer ran the point on an 11-seed Loyola Chicago team in their 2018 Cindarella Final Four run.

Kemba Walker led a 3-seed UConn to a National Championship.&nbsp;Three years later, Shabazz Napier led a 7-seed UConn to his second championship.&nbsp;This year, UConn has another insanely talented guard in James Bouknight... can he lead a bubble team to a deep run this year?&nbsp;Keep an eye on these other alpha dogs who have the potential to lead their teams to a Cindarella-type run: Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State), Chris Duarte (Oregon), Cam Thomas (LSU), Marreon Jackson (Toledo), Bones Hyland (VCU), Derrick Alston (Boise St.), Chandler Vaudrin (Winthrop), Darius McGhee (Liberty).

<h2>Rankings And A Hypothetical Q&amp;A</h2>

We&#39;re getting closer to March so more and more people are starting to pay attention to the college basketball world.&nbsp;I see the same comments and conversations happening all the time.&nbsp;So here is a Q&amp;A&nbsp;made up of&nbsp;questions I&#39;ve received from various people over the past couple weeks.

&nbsp;

About Gonzaga 
Q: Gonzaga at #1? Baylor and Michigan might be better.

A: No, Gonzaga is actually significantly better.&nbsp; They have a&nbsp;more reliable offense, better coach, better point guards, and more NBA caliber players.&nbsp; In fact, Gonzaga currently has the highest KenPom efficiency rating of all time!

Q: But Gonzaga doesn&#39;t play anyone!

A: Actually, the Zags beat Kansas, Iowa, Virginia and Auburn all by double digits.&nbsp; They also beat West Virginia in a game where Gonzaga&#39;s star freshman point guard Jalen Suggs got injured.&nbsp; Now they beat the breaks off of every team in the West Coast Conference - which in a down year is still a top 10 conference in the sport (out of 32 conferences).&nbsp; Gonzaga&#39;s Strength of Schedule is top 100 - both overall &amp; non-con - which is actually better&nbsp;than Baylor&#39;s SoS.

Q: Well Gonzaga hasn&#39;t played anyone real tough recently.&nbsp; Won&#39;t that hurt them come NCAA Tournament time?

A: I don&#39;t think so.&nbsp; In 2017 Gonzaga was in a similar situation and was unfazed&nbsp;by the lack of WCC competition.&nbsp; Gonzaga was 29-0 before they lost their final regular season game to BYU.&nbsp; They won the WCC Tournament and entered March Madness 32-1.&nbsp; They made a run to the national championship game by beating battle-tested tournament teams from the Big Ten, Big 12, Big East and SEC.&nbsp; In the ugliest championship game I&#39;ve ever watched, Gonzaga battled through all of their big men getting in foul trouble and still held a lead over North Carolina at halftime.&nbsp; The Zags were even ahead with two minutes left in the game, but ultimately lost to UNC. 
&nbsp;

About Houston 
Q: I see Houston is ranked high again, are they back?

A: Yes, I think Houston is back.&nbsp; Earlier in the season the pre-season AAC POY Caleb Mills decided to leave Houston and enter the transfer portal.&nbsp; It hurt Houston&#39;s depth, and in turn their ceiling, and Houston took a couple bad losses to East Carolina &amp; Tulsa.&nbsp; But just recently Houston gained a critical piece to its roster.&nbsp; 6&#39;8&quot; senior Fabian White missed the entire season but has now returned healthy.&nbsp; He only played 9 minutes in a loss at Wichita State.&nbsp; However,&nbsp;on Saturday White played 20 minutes and put up 10 &amp; 9 and looked good doing so.&nbsp; I don&#39;t under-estimate the value of depth on a well rounded team like this. 
&nbsp;

About West Virginia 
Q: I see West Va in the top 10, is this a classic Huggy Bear &quot;Press Virginia&quot; team?

A: Actually, not at all.&nbsp; This is the strangest team Bob Huggins has coached in Morgantown, because they&#39;re the opposite of every other one.&nbsp; This year&#39;s team is all offense, and not much defense. They&#39;re shooting the three ball really, really well.&nbsp; Of course big man Derek Culver is grabbing rebounds off the offensive glass.&nbsp; Ever since big man Oscar Tshiebwe left the team, Huggins moved away from the two-big lineups and it has created more opportunities for guys like Miles McBride, Taz Sherman and Sean McNeil to spread out and make it rain from the three point line.&nbsp; West Va is a high scoring,&nbsp;fun team to watch.

Dom's CBB Top 25 (2/22/21)

<h2>College Basketball Top 25</h2>

1. Gonzaga 
The Zags handled BYU in Provo with relative ease.&nbsp;Then they went on to destroy San Francisco by nearly 40 in their fifth straight road game.&nbsp;This team has three guys that are in the top ten best players in America, and I continue to expect them to win the NCAA Championship this year.

2. Baylor 
The pause continues, but Baylor was playing like the clear #2 team all season long.&nbsp;With their experience and balance, I expect them to maintain high level of play when they return to the court.

3. Ohio State 
The Buckeyes have the most Quad 1 wins in the country and they picked up another one Saturday when they blew out Indiana.&nbsp;The Buckeyes are Final Four good, and a 1-seed will make it that much easier for them to get there.

4. Michigan 
The Wolverines looked pretty weak at first coming out of their 3 week pause, down double digits to Wisconsin at halftime.&nbsp;But in the second half they flipped a switch and carried momentum to a victory.&nbsp;I still think Michigan&#39;s schedule has been weak - this was their best win of the season so far - but Michigan seems to have the balance to beat almost anyone.&nbsp;They are one of three teams with top 10 offensive &amp; defensive efficiency rankings on KenPom.&nbsp;See #1 &amp; #2 for the other two.

5. Alabama 
The Tide took care of business against some weak SEC opponents, including scoring&nbsp;115 against Georgia on Saturday.&nbsp;At their best, this team can beat anybody.&nbsp;At their worst, they&#39;re still a Sweet Sixteen team.

6. Illinois 
I&#39;ve talked about Ayo Dosunmu in previous articles and I have to mention&nbsp;about him again.&nbsp;There&#39;s nobody I&#39;d rather have holding the ball with the game on the line than Ayo.&nbsp;He has a legitimate case for NPOY, and while he&#39;s still behind Iowa&#39;s Luka Garza, there&#39;s a potential for that to flip over the next couple weeks.&nbsp;Illinois is another team with a very high ceiling, but head-scratching performances like Friday&#39;s overtime win at Nebraska keep them out of the top tier.

7. Villanova 
Nova took a tough loss at&nbsp;Big East rival Creighton this weekend.&nbsp;Jay Wright&#39;s Wildcats still have one of the prettiest offenses in the sport, and Collin Gillespie &amp; Jeremiah Robinson-Earl make up one of the best inside-out combos anywhere.

8. Houston 
Aside from that shocking loss at East Carolina earlier this month, Houston has been one of the most consistent teams in the country.&nbsp;They lost a key piece in Caleb Mills who decided to transfer out of the program, but they&#39;ve looked just as good without him.

9. West Virginia 
The Mountaineers got a great road win at Texas Tech but then dropped a game at home to Oklahoma in double overtime.&nbsp;This might be Bob Huggins&#39; best offensive team at West Virginia.

10. USC 
The Mobley brothers make up a scary front court that&#39;s hard to score on or rebound against.&nbsp;Some great three point shooting threats would really&nbsp;compliment them nicely.

 College Basketball Top 251. Gonzaga The Zags handled BYU in Provo with relative ease.&nbsp;Then they went on to destroy San Francisco by nearly 40 in their fifth straight road game.&nbsp;This team has three guys that are in the top ten best players 

Dom's CBB Top 25 (2/15/21)

I&#39;m over the Super Bowl hangover and ready to release my weekly rankings, a day late but even more accurate after watching Monday&#39;s games.&nbsp;Gonzaga took care of business rather easily aginst WCC rival BYU, though they made bettors sweat the spread at the very end of the game.&nbsp;I had Ohio State&nbsp;slated to fill that revolving door of the #3 spot, and they reinforced that decision with a solid road win against a hungry Maryland team. Kyle Young and EJ Liddell while a bit undersized are still one of the best front courts in the country.&nbsp;The emergence of Justin Ahrens as a knock-down sharpshooter from the perimeter really makes the Buckeyes such a tough team to beat.&nbsp;USC is the only Pac 12 team represented, though Colorado continues to be a team barely outside my rankings.&nbsp;Kansas got their first respectable win in a month.&nbsp;It wasn&#39;t enough for me to include Kansas in the Top 25, but it did prevent Oklahoma State from pushing into the teens.&nbsp;Although I would take Gonzaga&#39;s Jalen Suggs with the first pick of the NBA Draft, most&nbsp;mock drafts continue to have Oklahoma State&#39;s Cade Cunningham at the top spot.&nbsp;It would be a major disappointment if the NCAA didn&#39;t allow Oklahoma State to play in this year&#39;s tournament.&nbsp;Anthony Edwards, Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons were all #1 picks that didn&#39;t play in the NCAA Tournament but the difference is their teams weren&#39;t good.&nbsp;Cade Cunningham&#39;s Oklahoma State team actually has Elite Eight type upside, and I&#39;d love to see Cade showcase his elite talent&nbsp;in March.

UNLV vs Air Force isn&rsquo;t going to draw a lot of attention outside of Las Vegas, but I see it as a good betting spot. I typically don&rsquo;t like laying double digits in conference play, but I have no problem doing it here.&nbsp;

The Mountain West Conference currently has a 71% home win percentage. This is the highest of all 31 conferences playing college basketball. It&rsquo;s one of the reasons I bet Nevada money line at home last night to upset Boise State. If you were in the BetKarma CBB Premium Discord channel you probably took advantage of that +170 money line too. The Mountain West Conference also has the second highest rate of blowouts with nearly 36% of games finishing with a 20 or more point&nbsp;differential.&nbsp;

UNLV is coming off four straight tough games against top tier MWC teams in Utah State and Nevada. Now they get to play Air Force, the number 324 team on KenPom. Air Force is the worst rebounding team in the conference as well as the worst defensive team. UNLV will have a significant size advantage down low leading to offensive rebounds and easy points in the paint.&nbsp;&nbsp;6&rsquo;11&rdquo; 235 lb.&nbsp;senior Mbacke Diong has three inches and forty pounds over Air Force&rsquo;s starting center. I also expect UNLV backcourt duo of David Jenkins and Caleb Grill to sink plenty of threes against Air Force&rsquo;s dismal perimeter defense.&nbsp;

Corey Kispert - Gonzaga (1) 
Freshman Jalen Suggs may be the Gonzaga player drawing the most attention by NBA GMs as a potential top two pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.&nbsp; However, it&#39;s a different Zags player that is making a legitimate case for National Player of the Year.&nbsp; While everyone has Iowa&#39;s Luka Garza penciled in as NPOY, Kispert is actually scoring more efficiently from behind the arc, inside the arc, and at the free throw line, all while playing for the best team in the country.&nbsp;At 6&#39;7&quot;, 220 pounds, the senior is simply unstoppable this year.&nbsp;Kispert is currently averaging over 20 points per game on better than 55/45/90 (FG/3pt/FT) shooting percentages, a feat absolutely no player has done in the last several decades, if not ever.

 
Justin Gorham - Houston (4) 
Houston has stars like Quentin Grimes and Marcus Sasser, but Houston&#39;s identity is toughness and rebounding.&nbsp;The best offensive rebounder in the country is not a 7-footer - it&#39;s actually 6&#39;7&quot; Gorham, who currently has&nbsp;over 18% offensive rebounding percentage. Gorham is a major reason Houston leads the country in offensive rebounds per game, and a key reason I see Houston as a Final Four team right now.

 
Ayo Dosunmu - Illinios (12) 
While the 7-footer Kofi Cockburn gets a lot of attention, the&nbsp;6&#39;5&quot; junior Dosunmu will determine how far Illinios will go in March.&nbsp; Dosunmu showed that when he dropped 25 in&nbsp;a big win over Iowa last week.&nbsp;He can shoot the three, but more importantly he is the type of guy you can depend on to drive into the lane and either finish or kick out to an open shooter.&nbsp;In a tight spot at the end of the game, there&#39;s not many guys I&#39;d want handling the ball over Dosunmu.

 
Cameron Krutwig - Loyola Chicago (17) 
The senior center is dominating the Missouri Valley Conference with his old school&nbsp;post moves.&nbsp;Krutwig already made a Final Four as a freshman, and his team is good enough to get him back there as a senior.&nbsp;I like their chances, and I love their odds, currently at 50/1 to make the Final Four.

 
Yuri Collins - Saint Louis (25) 
The Billikens sophomore point guard doesn&#39;t score a ton of points - he has seniors Jordan Goodwin and Javonte Perkins to take care of scoring.&nbsp;What Collins does better than almost anyone in the country is pass.&nbsp; Collins is averaging 7.7 assists per game, with an incredible assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.3.&nbsp;Collins runs the point on a very good SLU squad that just lost their first game back from a 33-day COVID pause.&nbsp;Assuming they get back in the groove, this will be a dangerous team in March.

Dom's CBB Top 25 (2/1/21)

Georgia Tech Coach Josh Pastner has yet to beat Coach K and Duke in his career.&nbsp; On the surface at least, it looks like that trend will continue.&nbsp; Duke returns home to Cameron Indoor after three straight road losses.&nbsp;Duke is hungry for a win to right the ship, and hopes to get it in the comfort of their home gym.&nbsp; However, in the 2020-21 season we know there will be no Cameron Crazies, and Duke&#39;s elite home court advantage has already failed twice this season.&nbsp;We&#39;ve seen decades-long trends get busted almost every week throughout this crazy season, so why not here as well?

Georgia Tech is shooting 45% in conference play, the highest clip in the ACC.&nbsp; Duke defense (or lack thereof) is allowing ACC opponents to shoot over 40% from three, which is 13th in the conference.&nbsp; Duke&#39;s pathetic defense is also sending opponents to the free throw line more often than any other ACC team.&nbsp; The matchup is favorable for Georgia Tech, a senior-laden team going up against a young, vulnerable Duke team.&nbsp; Duke will be deserate for a win after dropping three straight, but Pastner and his seniors will certainly be hungry to steal a&nbsp;win at Cameron as well.&nbsp; Duke is 1-5 against the spread in conference play compared to Georgia Tech&#39;s 4-1 ATS record in ACC games.&nbsp;Even in Duke&#39;s ACC victories, they only pulled ahead by double digits against Wake Forest in the final five minutes, they never pulled away from Boston College, and their double digit win at Notre Dame seems like forever ago.&nbsp;I don&#39;t see any reason Georgia Tech can&#39;t be right there in the final minute.

Dom's CBB Top 25 (1/25/21)

Team That Is Going To Win The National Championship 
I&#39;m convinced this is one of the best college basketball teams of the past decade.&nbsp; Gonzaga has a top three coach in the sport (Mark Few), multiple NBA Draft lottery&nbsp;picks&nbsp;(Jalen Suggs and Corey Kispert), and the best backup point guard in the country (Andrew Nembhard).&nbsp; Zags are one of the taller&nbsp;teams in the country with good length all over the floor, including Drew Timme down low who can score efficiently and rim protect.&nbsp; The play extremely fast and want to boat race every team to 85+ points.&nbsp; Even the&nbsp;slowest tempo team in the country, Virginia, could not control the pace of the game as they&nbsp;let the Zags score 98 on them - nearly double the 50 points Virginia just held Clemson to this weekend. 
1. Gonzaga

National Championship Contenders 
The only other team I can realistically see winning it all is Baylor, who just took care of Kansas at home last night rather easily.&nbsp; Baylor is top five (out of 347 active Div I teams) in a number of statistical categories&nbsp;including 3-point percentage, offensive rebounding percentage, and opponent turnover percentage.&nbsp; They have elite offense and&nbsp;elite defense.&nbsp; They have experience.&nbsp; However, they do lack size and may be a bit too dependent on 3-point shots.&nbsp;I&#39;m not 100% convinced they have the coach either.&nbsp; Scott Drew has never won the Big 12 and never made a Final Four... this seems like it has to be the year he gets over both of those hurdles. 
2. Baylor

Final Four Contenders 
The surprise in this group is probably Alabama.&nbsp; To me, in the past month&nbsp;they have absolutely been playing like a top ten team.&nbsp; Herb Jones once again is playing through injury and playing well.&nbsp; The big guy is seemingly indestructible.&nbsp; Jaden Shackelford and John Petty lead one of the best back courts in the nation. The Tide are destroying SEC teams at home and on the road right now.&nbsp; Coach Nate Oats has his guys playing team ball and if they get past LSU in Baton Rouge, they may be in the midst of a lengthy winning streak.

Dom's CBB Top 25 (1/11/21)

Rutgers is coming home off back-to-back losses. Rutgers has one of the more exaggerated home/road splits, even without a packed house at the RAC this season. They got embarrassed at Michigan State, shooting their season lows from the field, from three, and from the free throw line. While they aren&rsquo;t a good free throw shooting team, they typically shoot really well from three and from two. I expect Coach Pikiell hammered these guys the past few days after that one. Now they turn the page to a revenge spot against Ohio State.&nbsp;

The Buckeyes beat Rutgers at home just before Christmas in a game they actually trailed throughout, right up until Rutgers big man Myles Johnson fouled out with 5 minutes left and momentum shifted. Ohio State point guard CJ Walker didn&rsquo;t have a good game in that win, but now he will be out entirely in the rematch. Walker tore a ligament in his hand and this will be OSU&rsquo;s first game without the senior point guard. Duane Washington Jr. will likely slide over from the SG spot to run point. Sharp shooter Justin Ahrens and Bucknell transfer Jimmy Sotos will likely receive a bump in minutes.&nbsp;

Rutgers is likely due for positive shooting regression, and they&rsquo;re highly motivated in a revenge spot coming off an awful performance and back to back losses. Ohio State has yet to impress outside the state of Ohio, and now they have to adjust on the fly to life without CJ Walker. Everything about this matchup screams Rutgers redemption to me.&nbsp;

The Zags look unbeatable right now.&nbsp;This is one of the best college basketball teams of the past decade.&nbsp;Drew Timme and Corey Kispert are top 10 players in the country.&nbsp;Joel Ayayi is a walking double double.&nbsp;Jalen Suggs is the best freshman in the country.&nbsp; My pick to win the NCAA Championship, and it&#39;s not even close:

Each of these teams has what it takes to win it all.&nbsp;Avoiding a matchup with Gonzaga would certainly help out, so building a resume to secure a 1-seed would gaurantee an easier path than one with the Zags in the same region.&nbsp;Final Four should be the minimum goal for these teams.

Dom's CBB Top 25 (1/4)

After a pretty slow Christmas week, there&#39;s not a lot of change at the top of my rankings from last week.&nbsp;Here&#39;s my latest rankings with teams grouped into&nbsp;tiers:

<h2>Dom&#39;s CBB Top 25</h2>

National Championship Favorite 
The Zags are in a league of their own this year.&nbsp;I previously mentioned they have a possibility of an undefeated season. Now there&#39;s a high&nbsp;probability that they go undefeated in the regular season.&nbsp;My pick to win the NCAA Championship, and it&#39;s not even close: 
1. Gonzaga

National Championship Contenders 
Each of these teams has what it takes to win it all.&nbsp;Avoiding a matchup with Gonzaga would certainly help out, so building a resume to secure a 1-seed would gaurantee an easier path than one with the Zags in the same region.&nbsp;Final Four should be the minimum expectation for these teams. 
2. Baylor 
3. Wisconsin 
4. Houston 
5. Villanova 
6. Kansas

Final Four Contenders 
I&#39;ve seen flashes from these teams that show signs of a potential deep run in March. 
7. Tennessee 
8. Texas 
9. West Virginia 
10. Iowa 
11. Arkansas

Good But Not Great Teams 
This group has shown they can hang with just about anyone, but they need to polish certain areas of their game to make the jump into the elite grouping of Final Four contenders. 
12. Creighton 
13. Illinois 
14. Saint Louis 
15. Texas Tech 
16. Rutgers 
17. North Carolina 
18. Xavier 
19. Northwestern

Paper Tigers 
These teams have either won &amp; lost some tough games, or have won a lot without real challenge yet.&nbsp; Either way, these teams seem like they will be able to win or lose on pretty much any night in conference play.&nbsp;They&#39;ll always be a challenge, but I need to see something more to be able to bump higher in the rankings. 
20. Minnesota 
21. Florida State 
22. Missouri 
23. Michigan 
24. San Diego State 
25. Ohio State

Notables Missing: 
It&#39;s worth noting some talented teams with high expectations that have fallen flat on their face early.&nbsp;Most of these squads&nbsp;are young or inexperienced and could be very dangerous come March if they find a way to mesh better and put together complete games.

<h2>Dom&#39;s CBB Top 25</h2>

Some quick notes on each team:

1. Gonzaga 
Far and away the best team in the nation and my pick since pre-season to win the&nbsp;NCAA Championship.&nbsp;Zags beat Iowa rather easily, and Jalen Suggs made a case to be the&nbsp;#1 pick in next year&#39;s NBA Draft. 
2. Baylor 
I still look to that second half against Illinois that showcased how Baylor is a tier above everyone other than Gonzaga. The Bears force turnovers on defense, they make nearly half their threes and get offensive rebounds. 
3. Wisconsin 
The revolving door at #3 features Wisconsin this week after beating Loyola Chicago and then making a mockery out of Louisville.&nbsp;The Badgers&#39; only loss is from a buzzer beating tip-in at Marquette. 
4. Houston 
The Cougs keep taking care of business even with injuries to key players.&nbsp;A fully healthy Houston team is a national champion contender. 
5. Villanova 
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is a top five player in the sport, and senior guard Collin Gillespie is the type of leader that Jay Wright has won championships with recently. 
6. Kansas 
After a big road win in Lubbock I could see Kansas as high as #3, but I still have some questions on the Jayhawks&#39; offense. 
7. Iowa 
Iowa&#39;s offense is still a thing of beauty, but their transition defense remains one of the worst. 
8. West Virginia 
West Va escapaed with a win against lowly Iowa State.&nbsp;A big opportunity awaits Tuesday at Kansas. 
9. Texas 
The well-rounded Longhorns handled business against Cade Cunningham and Oklahoma State. 
10. Tennessee 
The Vols could have one of the&nbsp;best defenses I&#39;ve seen in the past decade in college basketball. 
11. Arkansas 
Eric Musselman has assembled a masterpiece considering all these new faces in town. 
12. Creighton 
Excellent offense, questionable defense, but this team is going to be right there in every game in the Big East. 
13. Illinois 
Illinois has been losing&nbsp;close games, but as the freshmen Miller &amp; Curbello grow I expect Illinois will be able to finish a close one. 
14. Texas Tech 
Incredible defense, but if Mac McClung is going to be the go-to on offense he needs to get more efficient. 
15. Rutgers 
Big home win against Illinois following&nbsp;wins against Maryland and Syracuse proves they are legit. 
16. North Carolina 
Still a young team, they could be super dangerous come March if someone (anyone!) develops a reliable three point shot. 
17. Saint Louis 
SLU took care of NC State before dropping a tough one at Minnesota in a game the Gophers shot 41 free throws. 
18. Xavier 
The addition of Belmont sharp shooter Adam Kunkel proved to be valuable with his buzzer beater to take down Marquette and remain undefeated. 
19. Indiana 
Trayce Jackson-Davis is a top ten player in the country.&nbsp; I&#39;d like to see the Hoosier backcourt step it&#39;s game up to compliment TJD down low. 
20. Michigan State 
Spartans haven&#39;t put together a complete game since their win at Duke.&nbsp; Tom Izzo continues to experiment with bad&nbsp;lineups. 
21. Florida State 
The Noles looked great against Florida, but bad in a home loss to UCF. 
22. Richmond 
Impressive wins away from home against Vanderbit and Loyola Chicago bump the Spiders back into my top 25. 
23. Virginia 
They haven&#39;t played in weeks, but the day after Christmas looms a showdown with Gonzaga. 
24. Missouri 
They haven&#39;t played since a close win vs. Illinois. 
25. Marquette 
This team is battle tested and can hang with anyone.

Dom’s CBB Top 25 (12/21)

Wisconsin just beat a good Loyola-Chicago team on Tuesday and looks pretty&nbsp;hot&nbsp;after&nbsp;making more than half of their three-point attempts. Meanwhile Louisville hasn&rsquo;t played in two and a half weeks. I&rsquo;ve generally been hesitant to back a team off a covid pause, since we don&rsquo;t know what type of rust they need to shake off. And the Kohl&rsquo;s Center probably isn&rsquo;t the place to play coming in cold. Under coach Greg Gard, Wisconsin loses about 3 home games per season; only 1 home loss last season with the same players as this year&rsquo;s team.&nbsp;

In addition to hot three-point shooting, Wisconsin gets a lot of points at the charity stripe. This bodes well for the home team Badgers since Louisville has been fouling a decent amount, especially in the paint. Down low is where the Badgers have quite the advantage over the Cards who have been hit pretty bad with the injury bug. Malik Williams and Charles Minlend will both be missing in the front court, leaving behind a group of inexperienced freshmen and sophomores. They will have quite the challenge on the defensive end, chasing Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter from the paint to the arc - both areas where both Wisconsin big men score extremely efficiently.&nbsp;

Louisville has a strong backcourt with Carlik Jones and David Johnson. They&rsquo;ll need to get hot from behind the arc to have a chance in this one, as I think they&rsquo;ll have a tough time scoring anywhere close to the basket.&nbsp;

As I said last week, it&#39;s Gonzaga, then Baylor, then everybody else.&nbsp;So&nbsp;I&#39;m starting to think the #3 spot is going to be a revolving door.&nbsp; Last week, Houston looked solid enough to be&nbsp;the &quot;best of the rest&quot;.&nbsp;Then Iowa&nbsp;stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park.&nbsp;

<h2>#3 Iowa</h2>

Iowa spent the past week racking up wins against North Carolina, Iowa State, and Northern Illinois.&nbsp;Iowa showcased their offensive firepower as they exploded to an early 15 point lead agianst UNC behind a barrage of three-pointers that seemingly could not miss.&nbsp; The lead was not insurmountable though, as UNC stole the lead back with around 10 minutes to go in the second half.&nbsp;The Tarheels exploited Iowa&#39;s weaknesses on defense.&nbsp;Iowa defense is not only suspect, it is perennially underwhelming under coach Fran McCaffrey.&nbsp;With one of the worst transition defenses in all of Power 6 basketball, Iowa allowed UNC to score&nbsp;24 points in transition, and 42 points in the paint.&nbsp;I believe UNC unveiled a not-so-secret blueprint for beating Iowa - get out and score in transition, attack the paint and offensive glass.&nbsp;The Tarheels also had the big bodies down low to throw at Luka Garza to slow him down.&nbsp;Since the Big Ten is the league of the bigs, conference foes may be able to do the same.&nbsp;However, Iowa showed tenacity to fight back and get the victory.&nbsp;When Iowa makes 17 three-pointers on highly efficient shooting, it will be tough to beat them no matter how poor their defense plays.

Next up for Iowa was Iowa State.&nbsp;The Cyclones aren&#39;t going to be good this year - they&#39;re not a tournament team, and it&#39;s extremely likely they finish bottom three in the Big 12. However, in&nbsp;a prime let down spot after a big win, and against an in-state rival, Iowa simply handled their business and pulled away against a lowly Iowa State team.&nbsp;The Hawkeyes didn&#39;t take their foot off the gas on Sunday, as they&nbsp;literally doubled up the points of NIU, winning 106-53.&nbsp;Iowa has proven to outscore opponents through electric perimeter shooting or down low with NPOY favorite Luka Garza, and both those styles compliment each other and open up opportunities for each other.&nbsp; Here&#39;s to hoping Saturday&#39;s heavyweight matchup between Gonzaga and Iowa goes off without a hitch, so we can enjoy watching the two best offenses in college basketball.

Offensively, North Carolina is going to exploit Iowa&rsquo;s defensive weaknesses. Iowa allowed more offensive rebounds to opponents last year than 250 other teams in the country. This year they&rsquo;re off to an abysmal start and that&rsquo;s against awful competition. Iowa wants to get out and run on offense, so they sacrifice defensive rebounding to do so. Translation: Iowa won&rsquo;t be able to keep UNC off the offensive glass, which is an absolute staple of Roy Williams&rsquo; offense. Another staple of Williams&rsquo; UNC offense is getting out and running themselves, scoring easy buckets in transition. Guess who has one of the worst transition defenses in the Power 6? Iowa does.&nbsp;

We know Iowa&rsquo;s defense is their weakness, so what about Iowa&rsquo;s electric offense? It starts down low with preseason NPOY Luka Garza. But I think UNC might be able to slow him down just a bit. Brooks, Bacot, Sharpe &amp; Kessler are all 6&rsquo;10&rdquo; 240lbs or bigger. None of them are as good as Garza, but that&rsquo;s not the point. The point is UNC has the bodies to throw at Garza with little worry of foul trouble, and a deep rotation of fresh legs in the front court. Garrison Brooks apparently has a sprained ankle and was held out of a practice and then held to half court only practice the following day. He did travel with the team, so I think he will play, maybe limited minutes. If Brooks misses, it certainly hurts the Heels. However, it could be just the opportunity that five star, McDonald&rsquo;s All American Day&rsquo;Ron Sharpe needs for a breakout game.

On the perimeter, Iowa certainly has the potential to get red hot and run away with it in any game. If they do, it&rsquo;s unlikely any team will cover the spread against them. Iowa is shooting 39% from long range so far this season, and they shot 35% last season without Bohannon for the bulk of it. However, Iowa has quite a step up in competition after playing three cupcakes to start the season - MEAC &amp; SWAC teams (perennial worst conferences in college basketball) and a Western Illinois team ranked 345 out of 357 by KenPom. North Carolina held their first four opponents collectively below 30% from three. Even with Texas shooting 41% from long range, UNC ultimately lost by two, but was tied until the very last second.

<h2>The Cream Of The Crop</h2>

There is clear separation at the top.&nbsp;Gonzaga is in an elite tier of their own.&nbsp;The Zags have so many scoring options they&#39;re nearly impossible to defend against.&nbsp;Baylor is in a secondary tier all by themselves.&nbsp;The way Baylor flipped a switch in the second half of the Illinois game solidified them at #2 for me.&nbsp;No other team has proven they are worthy of breaking up those top two yet.&nbsp;It would have been great to see these two face off on Saturday in Indianapolis but I guess we will have to wait a little longer.&nbsp;The game was called off due to COVID related issues, but both coaches have said they want to reschedule.

<h2>Houston</h2>

Since there&#39;s no team close to entering the top two, why not Houston at #3?&nbsp;They&#39;re probably not a household name in college basketball, but they probably should be.&nbsp;Coach Kelvin Sampson has led the Cougars to five straight 20-win seasons, highlighted by a 33-4 season in 2019 that resulted in a Sweet Sixteen appearance.&nbsp;Houston is sitting at 4-0 with double digit wins against a pair of respectable opponents in South Carolina and Boise State, and an absolute route of my #12 team Texas Tech.&nbsp;The win Saturday against South Carolina was especially impressive considering all the pieces Houston was missing: starting point guard and leading scorer Marcus Sasser, AAC preseason POY Caleb Mills, head coach Sampson and his son and associate coach Kellen Sampson.

<h2>The Top Conferences</h2>

My latest rankings tell the story about who the top conferences in college basketball are:

Big 12 
The best conference in the sport has four&nbsp;teams in the top 10 and five in the top 15 - that&#39;s literally half of the conference in the top 15!

Big Ten 
The deepest league in the sport has four teams in the top 15, six securely in the top 25 - and a case could be made to include Michigan and Ohio State as well.

ACC 
With six teams in my 10-25 range, ACC is the third best conference in the NCAA.&nbsp;The ACC-Big Ten Challenge will be appointment television on Tuesday &amp; Wednesday this week!

Every Monday I update my weekly college basketball top 25 rankings right here at BetKarma. This is not a predictive model; I&rsquo;d say this a combination between resumes, statistics, and my &lsquo;eye test&rsquo;. I analyze entire game performances,not just the final scores. And unlike other rankings, I try to ignore the names on the front of the jerseys.&nbsp;

So far it looks like it&#39;s Gonzaga, then everybody else. They are going to be a covering machine this year, and we will be betting them often.&nbsp; Florida transfer Andrew Nembhard becoming eligible right before the season added incredible depth to the guard rotation.&nbsp; There are multiple NBA level players on this roster and their offensive flow is a thing of beauty.&nbsp; There&#39;s a real chance Gonzaga goes undefeated this year, and I&#39;d bet heavily that they lose two games or less before reaching the Final Four&nbsp;in the NCAA Tournament.

Villanova, Kentucky and Virginia all took losses opening week.&nbsp; They fell eight, fourteen, and fourteen spots, respectively, from my pre-season rankings that I released on Twitter.&nbsp; It&#39;s worth noting that Villanova &amp; Kentucky&#39;s opponents (Virginia Tech &amp; Richmond) are both now in my Top 25, but Virginia&#39;s opponent San Francisco is not.&nbsp; I&#39;m pretty confident that both Wildcats squads will get better with time, as they seem to do every season.&nbsp; But Virginia&#39;s loss shocked me, and I need to see some offense out of them before they move up into the teens.

I am positive every fan base that reads this is upset about the ranking, except for Gonzaga fans.&nbsp;&nbsp;People will without a doubt question&nbsp;why didn&#39;t (insert team) make the list?&nbsp; My answers are:

&bull;&nbsp;Tennessee, Florida&nbsp;&nbsp;State, Oregon, Florida - Well, these teams didn&#39;t play, so I&#39;m not ranking them yet.

&bull;&nbsp;UConn, Alabama, Providence - These teams just haven&#39;t been challenged yet.

&bull;&nbsp;Louisville, Ohio State, Michigan - These teams got the W, but struggled against inferior competition.

&bull; Any team not listed - The team either isn&#39;t Top 25 good, or just hasn&#39;t showed it yet. 
&nbsp;

College Basketball season is so close you can almost taste it. Turkey, stuffing, gravy, Detroit Lions, and Kansas vs Gonzaga is all just a few days away. If you want to know the real money makers, you&rsquo;re in the right place. These teams aren&rsquo;t on TV much at all, so most fans and bettors may not hear&nbsp;much about them. This is the meat and potatoes of the sport, and this is where the betting&nbsp;money is made.

<h2>Iona</h2>

If you read my <a href="https://www.betkarma.com/articles/483/potential-mid-major-cinderellas">Mid-Major Cinderellas</a>&nbsp;article, maybe you sensed a theme. If not, let me spell it out for you. Coaching really matters! Tim Cluess had an excellent run at Iona, topping the MAAC six out of ten years, but now he&rsquo;s gone. In steps one of the NCAA&rsquo;s main coaching villains, Rick Pitino. With a scandal-filled background you can certainly question Rick Pitino&rsquo;s character, but you can&rsquo;t deny he&rsquo;s a winner. Pitino has won championships at Kentucky, Louisville and recently in Greece. I think he&rsquo;ll have Iona battling with Siena to the top the MAAC.&nbsp;

<h2>Liberty</h2>

Coach Richie McKay left Liberty in 2010 to spend six years with Tony Bennett at Virginia with their slow-as-molasses tempo. When McKay returned to Liberty in 2016 he brought along a&nbsp;slow-as-molasses tempo and pack line defense.&nbsp;After coaching the Flames to back-to-back ASUN regular season &amp; tournament championships, McKay loses four key seniors to graduation. Nevertheless, with a stout back line defense and a 23 game home winning streak, I expect Liberty to be successful again this season. They&rsquo;ll compete with Lipscomb at the top of the ASUN.&nbsp;

<h2>Hofstra</h2>

The Pride covered the betting spread in over 75% of their games last year and&nbsp;that was the best mark in all of Division I college basketball! In the past two seasons Hofstra has gone 53-16 with back-to-back CAA regular season titles and a couple surprising games including a win at UCLA and overtime loss at VCU. I plan to ride the Pride to beat the bookie again this season.&nbsp;

<h2>New Mexico State</h2>

This one seems too easy. The Aggies won the WAC five of the past six seasons and won seven of the past eight WAC Tournaments. They were a perfect 16-0 last year in conference play. Now they return 6&rsquo;7&rdquo; matchup nightmare Johnny McCants, who shot 68% inside and 39% outside while being very active on the boards as well. Division I newcomers Tarleton State and Dixie State replace CSU Bakersfield (moved to Big West) and UMKC (moved to Summit League), but I still don&rsquo;t see anyone dethroning NMSU from atop the WAC. Expect the Aggies to make the Big Dance, put up a fight, but exit in the first round.&nbsp;

<h2>NC Central</h2>

Coach LeVelle Moton has averaged over 20 wins per season the past decade in Durham, North Carolina. Last season very well could have been Moton&rsquo;s fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament. This program relies on excellent defense year in, year out. Showing any sort of offensive life whatsoever from behind the three point line would just be a bonus.&nbsp;

<h2>Merrimack</h2>

Coach Joe Gallo&rsquo;s Warriors made quite the entrance into Division I last season. Merrimack won the Northeast Conference and goes down as the first school ever to win its league in their first year of Div I. They did it by playing their own brand of basketball: incredibly slow tempo, zone defense, and elite press defense leading to the highest steal percentage in the nation and third highest forced turnover percentage in the nation. Gallo will have to replace a senior point guard, but he has enough returning pieces to go back-to-back in the NEC. They covered the spread in 60% of games last season. Will they remain underrated this season?

Mid-Major Money Makers

Everyone loves a Cinderella story, and it seems like there&rsquo;s one every March. Sometimes it&rsquo;s a shocking Sweet Sixteen run like &ldquo;Dunk City&rdquo; FGCU, or maybe it&rsquo;s the launch of a hall of fame career like Steph Curry&rsquo;s Elite Eight run with Davidson. Since 2000, a mid-major made the Final Four six times.&nbsp;Loyola Chicago, Wichita State, VCU, Butler and George Mason all made names for themselves with magical deep runs in March Madness. This year, I have my eye on six college basketball teams who could fit the glass slipper.

<h2>Northern Iowa</h2>

Coach Ben Jacobson had a 25-win team last season that shockingly lost in the first round of March Madness. This season&rsquo;s focus should be on redemption. AJ Green &amp; Austin Phyfe were one of the best inside-outside duos in the country last year as sophomores. That duo makes UNI a favorite in the battle with Loyola and Bradley for the Missouri Valley Conference title. The Panthers covered the spread in 68% of games last season and I think they&rsquo;ll be a money maker yet again. Remember in 2010 when Jacobson&rsquo;s UNI knocked off 1-seed Kansas to make the Sweet Sixteen? A decade later he&rsquo;ll have a chance to make surprise headlines in the NCAA Tournament once again!&nbsp;

Loyola Chicago</h2>

The other MVC team I really like has made NCAA Tournament headlines much more recently with their Final Four run in 2018. Cameron Krutwig and Lucas Williamson were just freshman then, but were important pieces nonetheless. Krutwig has continued to dominate on both sides of the ball and now enters his senior season alongside seniors Williamson, Tate Hall, Aher Uguak, and Keith Clemons. Coach Porter Moser has the talent and now the experience to make some noise yet again.&nbsp;

Saint Louis</h2>

I still think&nbsp;Richmond can win the Atlantic 10. I&nbsp;ranked the Spiders #30 preseason, though a season ending injury to Nick Sherod, their best three point shooter, drops them a bit.&nbsp;Dayton should still be good despite a massive drop off with Obi Toppin&rsquo;s early departure. With that said, the &ldquo;sleeper&rdquo; team in the A10 that could make noise in March is&nbsp;Saint Louis. Coach Travis Ford has his best roster in six years, ever since Marcus Smart led a talented Oklahoma State team. The Billikens return their top 8 scorers from last season&rsquo;s 23-win team, with their three best players all entering their senior seasons.

Besides experience, what will make this team so dangerous come March is their uniqueness.&nbsp;Saint Louis was the absolute worst free throw shooting team in the country. They barely shot any threes. They foul a lot. However, their strengths lie in physical defense and relentless rebounding. By absolutely dominating the glass, Saint Louis not only stays in games, they win a lot and can upset teams caught off guard by such unique gameplay.&nbsp;

Western Kentucky</h2>

6&rsquo;11&rdquo;, 235 lbs Charles Bassey was one of the top recruits in the nation out of high school. As a freshman, Bassey dominated as a double-double machine and will go down as WKU&rsquo;s best freshman ever. After flirting with the NBA Draft, Bassey returned for a dominant start to his sophomore season before an injury led to season-ending surgery just before conference play began. Bassey returns for his junior year and is joined by some key transfers that make this Hilltoppers squad really dangerous.

6&rsquo;5&rdquo; Luke Frampton was the best three point shooter in the A10 in his 2018-19 freshman season with Davidson. Frampton&rsquo;s spacing will complement Bassey&rsquo;s paint presence nicely. Casey Alexander&rsquo;s Lipscomb squad won 20, 23, and 29 games in Kenny Cooper&rsquo;s three seasons as a steady floor general. Cooper, a great passer and defender, transferred to WKU and upgraded from an ASUN powerhouse to a Conference USA powerhouse. WKU coach Rick Stansbury will undoubtedly put together a fourth consecutive 20-win season, but he hopes to break through for his first C-USA league title. I really like his chances.&nbsp;

Austin Peay</h2>

Coach Matt Figger is 62-38 in his first three years as head coach. More importantly, he is 39-15 in conference play and has improved in each year. He will compete for Ohio Valley Conference yet again, but if their awful perimeter defense can improve then they can finally win it. Expect Terry Taylor to dominate the conference in his senior year. Jordyn Adams was electric as a freshman and I can&rsquo;t wait to see what him and Taylor do this season. Covering the spread 59% of the time last season, AP must have surprised a lot of bettors. They won&rsquo;t surprise us this season, that&rsquo;s for sure.&nbsp;

Belmont</h2>

Coach Casey Alexander had Lipscomb looking great, ultimately winning the ASUN tournament in 2018 and then winning 29 games in 2019 before getting the Belmont job right down the road. In year one with Belmont, Alexander led a balanced team to win the OVC regular season &amp; tournament.&nbsp;&nbsp;Alexander will rely heavily on the dynamic duo of juniors in Grayson Murphy&nbsp;&amp; Nick Muszynski to compete for another OVC title and a good chance to be a NCAA Tournament Cinderella.

<h2>What. A. Season.&nbsp;</h2>

The college basketball regular season has officially come to an end. Five conference tournaments have finished, with automatic bids awarded to Utah State, Belmont, Liberty, Bradley and Winthrop. Another auto bid will be awarded today to either East Tennessee State or Wofford. See #25 above and take a guess who I like in that game. Six days from now, all 32 automatic bids will be finalized and the selection committee will select the other 36 teams to participate in the NCAA Tournament. With only six days until Selection Sunday, here are six highlights&nbsp;looking back on the 2019-20 college basketball season.&nbsp;

<ol>
	<li>Kansas. The #1 team in the nation, Kansas Jayhawks, are the overwhelming favorite to win the NCAA Tournament. In a year we all wondered if there were&nbsp;any&nbsp;truly elite teams, Kansas answered. Bill Self&rsquo;s record 14-straight conference titles came to an end in an injury-riddled 2018-19 season last year, but the Jayhawks are back on top of the Big 12 with another outright championship this year. It should come as little surprise though, as there have been only four seasons in this millennium that Kansas hadn&rsquo;t won the Big 12.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Full circle. Looking back on a great season, there were ups and downs but it seems to have come full circle. My preseason rankings had Michigan State, Kentucky and Kansas top three. Along the way, MSU &amp; Kentucky fell significantly. Now at season end, reverse the order but all three teams are back in my top five.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Obi Toppin. Before the season started, I debated internally on whether to rank Dayton or Davidson in my preseason top 40 rankings. Obi Toppin, I heard, was due for a breakout season. While I knew about him, I thought he might be a one man show. So I went with the Davidson duo of Kellen Grady and Jon Axel Gudmundsson. Whoops. Jalen Crutcher and Trey Landers perfectly complement Toppin to form the most efficient offense in the country. Obi Toppin&rsquo;s 100+ dunks this season would form a highlight reel unlike any ever. Windmill dunks. 360 dunks. Through the leg dunks. You name it, Toppin&rsquo;s dunked it. Oh by the way, he&rsquo;s also shooting 39% from three.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>End of an era. Two of my favorite college basketball players are graduating this season. Marquette&rsquo;s Markus Howard is probably the best scorer I&rsquo;ve seen in the modern day game. This season Howard scored 50+ points for the third time in his career, he has had several 40+ point games, and 30+ point performances have basically become the norm. Howard scored over 2,760 points with a 43% career three point percentage. Michigan State&rsquo;s Cassius Winston is also graduating this year. Winston finished his senior season by delivering Michigan State a third straight Big Ten title. Now he turns his focus to push for back to back Big Ten Tournament championships and back to back Final Fours. Currently 31 points shy, Cash will surpass 2,000 career points by the end of the Big Ten Tournament or NCAA Tournament. He has 890 assists to go along with that. Like Howard, Winston also finished with 43% career three point percentage - an excellent mark for volume shooters.</li>
	<li>Third year coaches. Coach of the year candidates all exceed expectations for their respective program. This year, several have done it rather quickly. Brian Dutcher led San Diego State to a 30-2 record and a 1- or 2-seed in just his third season at the helm. Anthony Grant led his Flyers to a 29-2 record to end the regular season in his third year at Dayton. Chris Holtmann had a roller coaster season in his third year at Ohio State as the buckeyes jumped to the tops of the rankings early on, only to completely fall apart and then make their return back inside the top 25. Brad Underwood will get Illinois back to the big dance in his third season. Steve Pickiell (fourth season at Rutgers), Mark Pope (first year at BYU), and Casey Alexander (first year at Belmont) also deserve recognition for exceeding expectations very quickly and getting their teams to the NCAA Tournament.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>The disappointing Tar Heels. Cole Anthony was supposed to be the best freshman guard in the country. While he did get injured during the season, UNC&rsquo;s complements turned out to be... not good. North Carolina finished dead last in the ACC and will miss the big dance for the first time in ten years.&nbsp;</li>
</ol>

<h2>Weekend Recap</h2>

It&rsquo;s barely March and the Madness has already started. Twelve ranked teams lost this weekend. Twelve! Blow up last week&rsquo;s rankings and start from scratch. I&rsquo;m kind of kidding, but kind of serious. What&rsquo;s happening now does matter more than what happened in November &amp; December.&nbsp;I watch a ton of basketball, and I&rsquo;ve personally watched each and every team on this list play over the past week. To recap all the madness, I&rsquo;ll highlight the good wins, bad losses, and &lsquo;explainable losses&rsquo;.&nbsp;

<h2>Good Wins</h2>

Kentucky protected home court with a win over Auburn on Saturday. With that win, Cal&rsquo;s Cats secured another SEC regular season championship. Kentucky has won eight in a row and is now 15-2 in 2020.&nbsp;

Michigan State had a big week including wins over Iowa and at Maryland. The&nbsp;key for the Spartans has been having players other than Cassius Winston stepping up. Xavier Tillman Sr. has been playing lockdown defense when it matters most. Freshman Rocket Watts exploded with 34 points in the two big wins as his confidence has taken off. Freshman Malik Hall scored 16 points at Maryland on perfect shooting from the field.&nbsp;

Dayton took care of business against a talented Davidson team. Obi Toppin will probably be the best NBA player from this draft class. Jalen Crutcher is a really good guard who can score and distribute.&nbsp;

UCLA beat Arizona and Arizona State and&nbsp;surged into first place in the Pac 12. Mick Cronin&#39;s team has won&nbsp;seven straight and nine of ten.&nbsp;

<h2>Bad Losses</h2>

Baylor&rsquo;s loss at TCU was a product of a weakness I&rsquo;ve previously pointed out - poor perimeter shooting. 
 
Florida State has been great at home but not so much outside of Tallahassee. The Noles&rsquo; one point loss at Clemson was disappointing. 
 
Duke has now lost three of their last four games. Good teams can win in a variety of ways, but Duke proved they can lose in a variety of ways. Duke lost at Wake Forest 113-101, and at Virginia 52-50.&nbsp;

<h2>&lsquo;Explainable Losses&rsquo;</h2>

Creighton ran into an absolute buzz saw in New York. Not only did Creighton have an outlier-type poor shooting day themselves, but St. John&rsquo;s made 14 threes on 64% from deep. There&rsquo;s not much you can do when an opponent gets that hot.&nbsp;

Villanova lost a close one at home to a very hungry and hot Providence team. Nova&rsquo;s point guard and team leader, Collin Gillespie was hobbled and it showed down the stretch.&nbsp;
